CBA refuses Letter of Clearance for Wilson Chandler - Feb 27, 2012

Several teams are waiting to sign Chandler Wilson (6'8''-F-87, college: De Paul) once he leaves the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). But the CBA has refused to give Chandler Wilson a letter of clearance to play immediately in NBA, sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski. According to Chandlers agent, though, approval to play in NBA should come this week: 'The China Basketball Association has refused to give Chandler Wilson a letter of clearance to play immediately in NBA', sources tell Yahoo! Better version of JJ, with a 3 point shot.

I really hope the lakers would give us a first rounder for him, they have a trade exception so his salary wouldn't be much of an issue.

i know how much you love to provoke, so i assume that this intentionally missed the point. he may actually be the most destructive player on the roster in terms of what we need to accomplish this year. undoubtedly the #1 trade option.

But what makes you take that stance? Potential, age? Chandler is younger and has room to grow as well.

I don't see why it's that hard to get rid of Barbosa in an attempt to shed salary, it's not like nobody is interested.

I just think JJ is much better than WC defensively and getting better offensively too.

It actually hit the mark. I understand he's a big trade piece for us... I just think it's unfortunate he is the piece. I think there's a lot of dead wood on this team and he's actually a piece that could find meaningful minutes on a winner while others could not.

As for dealing him, I acknowledge it may happen. I don't think WC is amazing and it would need to be a good deal and contract too. I think we should be chasing better players.

WC is a much more complete player and he's younger.

Complete? What does that mean? I think JJ is much better defensively and I think WC's offense is good but not he's not a dominant threat by any measure.

We disagree. As for the age, how many years younger? If it's one, don't worry about responding. If it's 5, then I'll concede.

Let's compare this year's JJ to last year's WC.

Cat - JJ - WC

DWS/48 0.077 0.038
OWS/48 -0.015 0.041
WS/48 0.062 0.079
PER (at SF) 10.4 14.7*
Opp PER (at SF) 14.7 9.7*

* these numbers taken from Chandler's time in DEN. The numbers in NYK were 15.9 and 14.6 respectively.

Now, considering that Chandler is a year younger than JJ, although he has played a lot more minutes at the NBA level, there is certainly an argument to be made either way (in terms of value).

Honestly, I'd be happy signing him to anything less than 10M per year. The move gives us a player who is defensively comparable to JJ, better offensively, and can round out one heck of a wing rotation with JJ and DD (given the hoped-for development from JJ and DD).

WC does have 2 years more experience in the NBA than JJ, being in the 07 draft and not the 09.
