Sources: Los Angeles Lakers rebuffing trade inquiries for Pau Gasol - ESPN Los Angeles

Quote:
The Los Angeles Lakers, largely at the behest of general manager Mitch Kupchak, have rebuffed trade inquiries from at least two teams for Pau Gasol, according to sources with knowledge of the Lakers' thinking.

The Toronto Raptors and Minnesota Timberwolves have both recently tried to engage the Lakers in trade discussions for Gasol, sources told ESPN.com, but the Lakers continue to tell teams that call that they will not consider dealing the Spaniard until L.A. can fully assess its roster after the return of injured point guard Steve Nash.
Quote:
Stretch power forward Andrea Bargnani, veteran point guard Jose Calderon and fellow vet Linas Kleiza are among the players, sources say, that the Raptors have discussed making available to the Lakers in a deal for Gasol.
Quote:
CBSSports.com reported Wednesday that there's a growing belief among rival executives that Toronto has emerged as the most likely landing spot for Gasol, given Bargnani's potential as a floor-spacing frontcourt partner to Dwight Howard and the boost Calderon could give a backcourt that has featured Nash for only a game and a half this season thanks to the 38-year-old's fractured fibula and will be without Steve Blake for the next 6-to-8 weeks after abdominal surgery.
I'm not the biggest fan of Gasol, especially if he's about to sit out all season, but at this point, Bargs is doing more harm than good on the court and may be the only big man softer than Pau in the NBA. At this point, there's nowhere to go but up, right? Ultimately, this trade wouldn't really help either team, I think, but perhaps just the personnel change can get things going...

Casey: "If Gasol sits the season, I'll have to play Ed Davis big minutes. Don't do it, Bryan."

I'm not a fan of Pau either. It's hard to imagine anyone other than Lakers taking a gamble on AB though, so maybe a multi team trade.

come on, guys. Didn't we help MIA to build a dinasty ? It would be fair if we helped LA too, to even the things out

Aside from giving up Caldy (if he does go), I don't think LA is getting much. Kleiza is okay and Bargs isn't much of an improvement (and probably a downgrade) over Gasol. Though, maybe playing with Kobe and MWP would bring out the best in him.

If Pau does end up here you can bet he'll put up a stinker of a performance and demand a trade to a contender.

AB is a total waste of space

A snippet from here:

Quote:
Rival executives believe the most likely landing spot for Gasol is Toronto, which could offer Andrea Bargnani in return and bolster the Lakers' point-guard deficiency with Jose Calderon, who is backing up Kyle Lowry. Sources say Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo has shown no willingness to part with Bargnani, but if pressure mounts for him to bolster the team's youth movement and win now by adding a veteran with All-Star credentials like Gasol, that could change.

On one hand, if Lakers fans thought Gasol was soft, wait until they get a load of Bargnani. But he's younger (27), makes half as much (though he has one more year on his deal) and would be the ideal floor-spacer to open the middle for Howard, who is uncomfortable sharing the low block. Gasol fancies himself a post player, and his range is decidedly less than Bargnani's, which makes him uneasy when pushed far out on the perimeter.

Yah ain't that the truth? Good things like dropping Bargs + Calderon a team never happen to the Raptors.

Knowing our luck, the trade would be JV + Lowry + Demar for Gasol and some other scrub.

What I want to know is... Where is Colangelo in all this?... Like has he spoken since the season started? Or even more recently in the last 3 weeks? Has he done any interviews on radio or tv regarding the state of the team 1 month into the season?

Our cowardly media is too busy towing the party line to hold him accountable. Doug Smith just today blamed Ed Davis and Amir for our bad D last night.

Now THAT's how you understate something! Saying Bargs is probably a downgrade from Gasol is like saying the ocean is probably a bit wet.

dude needs to do his job. He needs to make this team better through trades. That was clear since the summer. He has time to do it, but he better fucking do it. I mean, he has to do it right?

gasol makes 20 mils and has a trade kicker, so he will cost you 23 million. He has some injury issues that could potentially be severe, he shoots 42% from the field and has careeer lows across the board. He's also 30 and has 2 more years on that massive contract. Not sure his market is huge right now. So in a sense, the Lakers would win that deal with us, because they would at least shed some salary, since JOse expires after the season. Given their tax rate, they would be saving about 30 million in Gasol's final season alone ... And there's a chance that Bargnani could have a positive impact there, depends how you look at him. They wouldn't ask him to create, just to shoot wide open jumpers all day long and defend his man, both things he can do very well. And with kobe up his ass, who knows, maybe his intensity will pick up as well.

biggest thing I like about a possible Gasol trade is the fat $20 mil expiring next year.
but he is still a declining player that won't make us a playoff team.
