Wiggins will be in 2014 draft

Book it.

Now, how can we possibly contrive to get him? 'Cause he is just that level of talent, the super-star level, that could push Toronto into contention. And he is also Canadian, so, hopefully, would be less likely to leave.

The million-dollar question, of course, is how?!

Hmm... Stern is retiring that February - maybe ask Silver to rig his first lottery for us? ;)

I wish we could trade 10 or so first round picks

then again, I wish we couldn't, and not hoped that an 18(?) year old kid who MIGHT be SOMEWHAT good is taken by us for putting our entire future on the line. there are many "surefure" things that have backfired in the NBA, more so than have succeeded. it takes not only talent to succeed at this level, but determination, maturity, intelligence, and the list goes on and on...

i'm not eating my hat over this

thought 10-25-2012 06:49 PM

we won't get him in the draft unless something extraordinary happens, for better or worse.

our best chance to get him will be when he becomes a UFA after his initial deal is up. we'll be able to offer him some ched and for once we'll be a draw.

Carlos Danger 10-25-2012 07:07 PM

Exciting stuff, crazy to think he is that good. Who was the last player to skip ahead a year in their eligibility?

Ammo 10-25-2012 07:18 PM

No one has a great chance of getting him. Even the tanking teams. All any team can do in tanking is hope that they are able to pick up talent. Even Charlotte, for all their funkitude still had a 66% chance of drafting a guy with two eyebrows.

Besides not everyone places the same importance on "representing" right here in Canada. Once he becomes free, he can always claim he wants to be, er...."close to his kids" in some non-Canadian city like L.A., Chicago, Miami or New York.

you start feeling old when top prospects for the nba are a year younger than you :sigh:

How about we be a perennial playoffs team and an ECF contender the year he becomes a FA and see if that's enough of a draw. :cookie:

Dark Knight 10-25-2012 08:10 PM

We won't be able to get him since we'll be in the playoffs by 2014. :cookie:

Unless he pulls a Kobe Bryant and refuses to play for any team other than the Raptors. Wouldn't that be a dream.

will jabari parker also be a 2014 draft pick? He's ranked number one for the class of 2013. I dont think hes as good as wiggins tho

Potentially, yes. If they're both one and done like they're projected. Parker is not ranked #1 anymore though, Wiggins is now since he has moved to the 2013 class. Parker is now #2. At least according to scout.com HS BB rankings.

Andre Drummond did last yaer. Wiggins is the same age as players in his draft class (Jabari, Randle, etc.), actually older than most as a February birthday. When a prospect is held back a grade, it's in their interest to move back into their age group to graduate that year early

Windex 10-26-2012 01:12 AM

2014 draft will have similar to level talent to the 03 draft in Jabari (melo), Wiggins (Lebron :)) and Julius (bigger, more fluid Bosh). Raps are bad, but I don't see them being bag enough to land a top 3 pick in the next 3 years. Unless we get Chicago Bulls lucky in the lottery.
