Default Why are you against tanking?

Chrisholm's article raises an interesting question and I think it would be nice to get a feeling on where the majority lies. Obviously, this poll is dedicated to the anti-tanking crowd, when you opposed the move, do you make it on ideological grounds (not honest, not the proper way to build etc) or on circumstance (not the proper time to do it, this team is too good to tank etc). I will not give the easy way out of offering a "both", you just have to pick the strongest of the two.

I'm against tanking for a couple reasons. One being that it simply doesn't work for the most part, and it's predicated on luck. Second, you can't teach winning by losing and if we completely tank we better get rid of Derozan because I don't want to see him on a losing team the first 7yrs of his career. Hell, if we were to blow it up he'd probably ask to be dealt. Oh, and I lack the patience.

where's the option for being tired of tanking?

And why do we think this has anything to do with us? I support the team, up to a point. I stopped supporting the team in any way financially when I got sick and tired of the approach that seemed only intent of grabbing ahold of my money. I pledged not to attend games until I see results. If they decide to tank I will not attend games, but I will still support what they might be trying to do, and I'll await the results. If they do not tank I will be apt to check out a game or two if they keep getting what I see as some pretty good results thus far. It's up to them though, one way or another. I'm not really for or against anything strongly. I'm against the idea that there is one true way, clear, obvious, and certain and that we must accept that.

Pretty much this too. I haven't been to a game in two years.

That's the thing, is we haven't been tanking. Our first rounders since AB have been 1, 9, 13, 5, and 8. Our of those 7 years, three of them we had no first rounder.

9, 8, 13. Typical treadmill team. Such a crap shoot when you get into the 2nd half of the lotto. We actually managed to get pretty good talent out of those picks, but it clearly hasn't been enough.

Unfortunately for us, we had a GM who was so afraid to lose his job, he'd do things to scrape for those few extra wins, rather than a better pick. Best example would be when we were about 3 wins too high in '12 and picked 8th instead of a possible 2nd. Real shame too. We could have a MKG/Beal/Lillard/Waiters instead of Ross.

There's a difference between sucking and tanking.

we couldn't even tank if we tried now.

both brooklyn and the knicks are 3-10 and have massive injuries.
we're going to be 4th seed by default no matter what we do.

We tanked. You can argue we didn't tank well enough, but i watched Washington and Toronto trying to desperately lose a game at the end of a season. It was disgusting really, and somebody had to win. Tanking in the truest sense just doesn't happen so much. Just look at how much Boston and Phoenix and Philly are winning already right now. The worst teams aside from Utah are teams without picks. Utah maybe had no better option, but it's scary if it doesn't work out. They need to make a big jump at some point or they are just going to have players wanting to get somewhere else. In all cases the players are going to want to win, if they are worthy of being in the NBA. So engineering the perfect true tank is not quite so easy.

You can also look at Philly, making an obvious tank move with the trade of Jru for a broken down draft pick. They might have just done enough to get themselves onto the so-called treadmill when they could have maybe excelled. Just tossing value out the window is a dicey situation. If i see that to any extent, i have to start to consider just giving up as a fan.

a new gm won't blow up a team that's guaranteed a 4th seed when the team hasn't been past the first round ever and the eastern conference is the weakest it's been in all time

let's hope, and the 4th seed is far from guaranteed, we're not even a month into the season. lol

nets are lakers 2.0
knicks proably have to trade melo before next year or lose him to free agency, chandlers injured and they have no picks in the next 5 years lol
philly/boston went in to the season with rosters trying to lose games

We are not Indiana, the comparison really irks me too. Indiana has better, younger players who are already better than our best case scenario, and they still have room to improve. Their players fit better too. We're not going to have internal growth with something that's near its limit, unless you forsee one of DeMar or Rudy becoming MVP candidates like Paul George is. If so, as Stephen A. Smith would say: YOU SHOULD BE BANNED FROM TALKING BASKETBALL.

At the end of the day, it comes down to having a superstar. We're not signing any whether we're 9th seed or last in the league, we're probably not getting one for anyone on our roster, so we need to draft one. And where are you most likely to draft stars? Top 3.
