Default Why we will be an above average rebounding team next season

because we were ranked 10 in the nba in rebounds last season. Surprised? So was I.

Toronto Raptors was the 10th best rebounding theam in 2008/2009 when ONLY THE STARTING 5 is counted. Our starting lineup was way above averagein rebounding, but our bench sucked so much, that we dropped all the way to the bottom.

However, this season our bench will actually raise our overall stats, with rebounding giants like evans or amir johnson.

here is the link for those who need to see it to believe it:

Kind of obvious. Bosh can get 10-11. Bargs can get 7. Reggie and Amir are monsters on the boards and Turk and Derozan can grab a few too.

There is already a topic on rebounding from like a week ago. There was a lot of good points both way, if you want to check it out.

I think this deserves a topic on it's own, because it's not speculation
the cold hard fact is that our starting 5 was a very strong rebounder according to the stats. There's no way we are going to be a weak rebounding team next season.

10th only because our starters played more minutes then every team from 11th to 30th...

Actually, they played the 4th most minutes in the NBA.
So you make a good point Jakkal, our starters played more minutes than 25 other teams.

Kinda depressing. Our starters were facing backups more minutes then most teams and still we sucked.

I don't think we're a good rebounding team. Marion helped so much in that area - he'll really be missed.

But we seemed to be much more focused on the boards under Triano..... so hopefully that will continue.

Our bench should be better.

Pts/P 30th
Pts 24th
Reb 27th
Ast 19th kinda ironic since our backup pg's were so bad
Stl 30th
Blk 29th
T/O 22nd
+/- 27th

Opponents.
41.87rpg

Bosh's 10+, a horrible rebounder according to some Raptor fans is the reason we're high on that list. When it comes down to it, rebound differential is what should matter if looking at any rebounding statistic.
Just look at the position of some of the teams on that list, NYK in the top 5, SA in last.

But we do have better rebounders on the team, therefore our rebounding should improve. I don't think anyone can disagree with that.

we were #4 in minutes played, true, but he differential in minutes played is very small. I just did a per minute calculation in excel, and it turns out that, per minute played, our starters were:

11th in rebounding
13th in blocks
5th in assists
14th in points
26th in steals

So, even when accounting minutes played, our starting 5 was above average. Add a second unit who should among the league leaders in rebounding (for benches), and we should be looking at us being a top 10 rebounding team next season.

Nice. I hate getting out rebounded and letting the opposing team have 3rd and 4th chances

Another nice find Moremilk. I've been trying to say our rebounding will not be a problem for weeks. I expect us to be among the league leaders in offensive rebounds also with the addition of Johnson and Derozan.

Our perimeter defenders will be much more focused and do a better job of keeping their man off our defensive boards.

Think you had a rounding issue. I didn't calculate them all but were at least 13th in rebounding.

Offensive rebounding was something that hurt them and this year they have yet another forward out on the perimeter. I hope Wright and DeRozan are willing to hit the boards.

I've said it over and over again, we need to box out and cut down on 2nd-3rd chance points. Basically last season our initial defence wasn't that bad but our defensive rebounding was absolutly horrid.

More important is rebound differential. Haven't found end of season stats online but as of Dec 15th 2008 we were ranked...

30th in rebounding differential
23rd in points differential
20th in points allowed
