Why not make Bosh our starting SF?

Before everyone goes nuts on this hear me out.........

Instead of making the young Andrea Bargnani play out of his comfort zone at the PF position, or trade him away (which I am still in favor of at this time), why not play him at his natural position of PF and let our incredibly athletic superstar play the SF position? He is athletic enough to stay in front of them, and at 6'10, think of the matchup problems he would present on the block!!! Bosh loves to catch the ball about 15 ft away from the basket and face up most of the time anyway .so why can't he play SF? He has shown the ability to knock down the open jumper if they double down on the block as well as anyone. Who cares if he doesn't shoot 3's all the time (which he has shown he can make also), if we can get Barg's playing a more conventional PF , and not playing at the top of the key all the time jackin up 3's, then I think this could work just fine. He can play much better D on the SF's that torch us, and we get more size around the basket to grab the rebounds we were getting before? I think Bosh could be an all-star SF in the East, just as well as a PF. What do you guys thik, have I gone nutz?...lol

Yes, you have :haha:

I don't think his ball handling is there, and I shudder at the thought of Bosh defending Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Tayshaun Prince and, oh yeah, Lebron Freakin James on the perimeter.

You don't play your franchise player out of position to try and bring along a young guy who's future is up in the air at this point anyway. No ones development is worth taking your superstar out of his comfort zone.

fancylad 07-15-2008 09:47 AM

I don't like it at all.

reasoning is simple.

Bosh is a better power forward than Bargnani. Moreover, Bargnani is a better outside shooter than Bosh (also, i like Bargs' quickness on defense. I'd say he's better off guarding other SF's than Bosh is.)

ok, thought I would throw that out there.....I am just trying to find a way to get more out of our #1 pick overall ffs, as playing him off the bench is retarted!!!

Playing him off the bench is intelligent.

The guy has shown he isn't ready to be a prime time player, so why rush him?

Get him time against second units at his natural positions.

The number one pick is a sunk cost at this point. You can't say, "oh, he was the number one pick, so we have to play him 30 minutes per game" The pick has been used and Bargnani is a Raptor. Maybe that kind of attitude comes in to play for the first year or so, because you want to get your big pick some playing time.

But now, when this team is ready to contend in the East, you play him just like you would any other player on your team, and that's in the way that is going to benefit the team most.

We're past the point where we should be sacrificing any sort of team success for Andrea's development.

Not really. forcing his hand to play over our "franchise player" is worse.
Let Bargnani do his thing. Let him learn from Oneal and his bigman camp. He'll either get it or he won't. But doing it normally won't handicap the rest of the team.

A part of me, now with JO on the team, would prefer to see bargs at the SF position.
Yes he could never keep up to Lebron, Pierce etc-but whop can. With a good defensive system and JO/Bosh backing him up I think he could pull it off. Just needs to stay back off of them and get his long arms up when they shoot. Either that or run a 2-1-2 zone with Bargs at top center. On offense the team would be unstoppable, I think, with Bargs helping with entry passes on 2 man games with Bosh/JO.

Also when bosh goes up against guys like RJ he's not fast enough to blow buy them and not strong enough to post them up for an easy bucket. Its a mismatch problem for bosh and if sam does that he should get fired.

Teams Stop Bosh by going small on him.

Bosh is effective guarding 4's only.

Nope.

won't work

Who fricken thought of that? When NJ put Hassell on him I got so pissed..

Why can't we put him on SF?

Because Bosh is tall enough to even play at the center position, which he's not, so how the hell would he play 2 positions smaller than what he is capable of playing at?

Not a good idea IMO

a raptor fan trying to get the very best out of this situation LOL.. but it cant get much better with the roster we have now

I honestly wish Bargs was 6 '10 instead of 7 feet. Then he could survive at SF like Peja.

Bargnani needs to change to fit the team, not the other way around. Sorry, its a bad idea. Bosh helps the team far more at the 4. Why fuck with the team's sure fire weapon?

the difference between Bargnani at PF and him at SF was minuscule last year. The difference when Bosh moves to SF is huge. So no, it makes no sense. Both of them are going to play PF/C. And I think it's a great thing Bargnani plays from the bench as long as the starter is an all star. I hated it last season, when they were playing Rasho who was clearly on its way out, just to get 2-3 more wins for the season. It made no sense, I'd rather develop my assets and if I don't make the playoffs at least I can get a better draft pick. Also, it's good for Andreea because he will not feel slighted playing behind two all-stars and will have some certainty about his role and what's expected of him.

Bosh was tried at the 3 when Sam first arrived. I don't think the idea got past the first pre-season game. Still Bosh can do some defending on the wing, as can Bargnani. But it's not going to be a staple for either of them.

I have come up with an absolute arguement of why Bosh should not play at SF. No before I post it I should appologize in advance for stopping this thread with my ashtonishing billiance in comming to this conclusion.

Ready?

Bosh should not play at SF because...

he is a PF
