Why has DD never been tried at the 3?

We could at least TRY

jose
barb
DD
etc
etc

Thoughts?

carp 01-15-2012 12:21 PM

He's too small. In spurts he has been put there, but he can't handle guys like Lebron, George, Gay, Pierce, etc.... heck, he probably gets abused by JJ in practice.

In what respect? Height Wise?

PP34 - 6ft 7
PG - 6ft 8
Rudy 6ft 8
LBJ 6ft 8

DD 6ft 7

?

He gets abused at the 2, he'd stand more chance of guarding 3's than 2's if you ask me.

IT would give us more offense with barb @ 2 and we've got nothing to lose anyway,,,,,

Worth 1 game I think.

ollyaaa 01-15-2012 12:28 PM

PS off topic but it reminded me - we played Sonny at the 3 - LOL!!!!

carp 01-15-2012 01:17 PM

I don't think DD is 6'7".... maybe in 4 inch heels. He may be listed as 6'7", but he's much smaller than JJ, Gay, Lebron, etc. Yeah, Sonny played the three, but he's also older and more physically developed, and he just wanted to shoot anyways.....

Stonezz 01-15-2012 01:41 PM

DD isnt big enough for the 3. Melo, Bron, Gerald Wallace etc. would make him look like a boy physically.

DeRozan 6'5.5", Johnson 6'7" and Sonny is 6'4"...all in bare feet.

Admiral 01-15-2012 04:15 PM

DD is big enough, but our team has more playable guys at the forward position
moving him to SF doesn't help us because now the SG position is empty, when people say we need an SF what they mean is we need another swingman to play with DD. Either way we're missing 1 guy
you can say barbosa for SG, but then we have nobody off the bench, either way our team is just weak in the swingman position in general, or really in all positions.
At this point i think the team wants a big team, where the SF is more of an SF/PF then an SG/SF

Its not about height, its about size. Hes just not big enough to guard the 3's around the league. Its like asking kobe to guard the 3, not gonna happen.

agreed, its also about what position he needs to be at on the offense, he definitely plays an SG type game
also, the players are becoming more skilled at their size, so you have some pretty big players that would classically play the PF and even C, but can now play the SF

Snooch 01-15-2012 05:24 PM

he isnt really either a sg or a sf.

cant handle the ball and set up plays or shoot like a tradional sf or create his own shot like a traditional sg.

cant defend either position

RaptorsFan4Life 01-15-2012 05:29 PM

Sonny shouldn't have been playing SF. He was far more effective (on O as well as D) when he was playing SG. He was forced to play SF because of Demar...

Where is all that info from? Sonny is now playing in Zalgiris and his height is listed as 1m 98cm, which is exactly like MJ's - 6'6

It's from the 2008 draft combine results. He's around 6'5.5" in shoes, so of course they're going to round it up to 6'6".

wow, there's some really interesting info there. Like vertical leap and stuff.. Sonny has a 36.5 max vertical, and for example D.Rose has 40.

It's just really weird that players' official height is stated while wearing sneakers. Some of them might have higher heels than others ;D

Acie 01-15-2012 09:08 PM

Sonny also has the second or third fastest recorded sprint in the history of the combine.

Joey Graham bench 185lbs 26 times. Good for second all time.

Seeker 01-15-2012 09:24 PM

i wonder, how they measure the Agility stat:)

On topic: I've seen quite a few times Derozan and Barbosa together on the floor, so technically DD was playing as a SF. But what he lacks for sf spot is strength..
i know there could be problems on defense, but i'd love to see this 5:
calderon
barbosa
derozan
bargnani
amir

yeah, it's quite weak, soft 5, but it should look good offensively..

me too. I don't believe DD is 6ft 5.5 like someone claimed.

just regarding PG - he supposedly grew over an inch since draft camp and he's now close to 6'10. and he plays SG and defended Rose better than anyone except LeBron last year.
Insane possibilities when you think about it.
