The city now is a lot larger and a lot more divers and multicultural. Many of the various cultures in this city love basketball, same as there being more soccer fans here now then there were 60yrs ago.

I would assume that ethnic diversity of the city in context to basketball didn't really mean anything in the 40s as it would have been a completely white sport back then anyways.

I'd examine league structure, finances and ownership of this team.

The NBA was in its infancy and like when many teams start, because of league instability, teams end up falling by the way side.

People just didn't care as much about things in general back then I think. Teams fold or move now and it's a tragedy and it's fought, but back then, "Oh, didn't work out? Oh well. Off to the burlesque theatre..."

exactly. there could have been a number of factors. I'm sure the league and the teams were essentially learning on the fly. It's not like 1940s NBA was this smooth running business machine that would resemble anything it is today.

As Claudius eluded to the league structure was a huge factor. In fact, the Huskies were never in the NBA, they participated in the first season of the BAA. There were two other teams (Cleveland and Detroit) that didn't make it beyond that first season either.

Aside from the league structure and population demographics, I remember hearing that the players on the team didn't particularly like each other and they didn't really listen to the coach, maybe Matt said it during a game, I can't remember off hand.
