The Toronto Globe and Mail reports that Chris Bosh has already begun offseason workouts and is hoping to gain up to 20 pounds prior to next season. he is working out with renowned trainer Ken Roberson in Dallas. "To be a superstar on (Bosh's) level as weak as he is," Roberson says of Bosh, "Shows his heart and ability. I mean, he strong now compared to most people, but I'm talking about him being incredibly strong, superhero strong, where you can take over a game and have plenty left over for the next night. We're building a locomotive."

Our View:It sounds like a good start to the summer for Bosh, who's Raptors did not make the playoffs this year. He will be seeking a maximum contract next summer at this time, and an uptick in performance from this season will be needed for him to get it. Should he add even 10 pounds of muscle, he would likely be a better producer in fantasy leagues as well.
http://ownersedge.fanball.com/nba/player.php?tqid=1198

Basically Bosh waited 6 years to get a trainer when it was obvious that he needed to do this after the '06/'07 season when he got pwned by NJ in the playoffs. Now that he is approaching finishing his 65 million 4 year deal he is doing what should have been done before with plans to leave. I think if this happened, it would be a huge slap in the face to Toronto fans and just as bad as Wince Carter dogging it.

What's even worse is that he's tried gaining muscle weight before and pussied out.

But to be fair, if it jacks up his value and makes my team better at the same time...I can't really complain.

Bosh's Youth, Length Intrigues Bulls

Draft Central 2003
Posted June 17, 2003

One season at Georgia Tech was enough for Chris Bosh. After leading his team in scoring (15.6), rebounding (9.0), blocked shots (2.2) and field goal percentage (0.560), the 6-11, 225-pounder with a 7-3 Ĺ wingspan decided it was time to test his talents in the NBA. A second-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2003, Bosh is projected in some mock drafts to be taken with the fourth overall selection in the June 26 draft. He recently visited the Bulls for a private workout and afterwards he spent a few minutes with Bulls.com to talk about his plans leading up to the draft.

Click here to get a Bulls insider's thoughts on Bosh.
Bulls.com:
How did you feel your workout went?

Chris Bosh:
It was good and very challenging because [the Bulls staff] put me through some tough drills. They definitely pushed me to the limit. I thought it was a really good workout.

Bulls.com:
With today being your first workout before an NBA team, did you have an idea of what the workout might be like coming into it?

Bosh:
Not really, because from what Iíve been told, each team does their workout differently and has their own drills.

Bulls.com:
What other teams are you planning on visiting between now and the draft?

Bosh:
Iíve got a few scheduledóin no particular order, Iíll see Toronto, Detroit, Denver and Miami.

Bulls.com:
What do you feel you need to do this summer in working towards starting a successful NBA career?

Bosh:
Just to keep working and to get in as good of a condition that I can. I want to keep working and get better everyday. Iím working with a trainer, a guy by the name of Ken Roberson, who is out of Dallas. Iíve also been working out with [New York Knicks forward] Kurt Thomas and he is helping me out and showing me some things.

Bulls.com:
What are your thoughts on how you might fit in with a team like the Bulls?

Bosh:
No matter where I go, I just see myself contributing in any way I possibly can. I can fit in on any teamís roster that needs someone to get rebounds and do the dirty work. I can do those kinds of things. It will be a privilege for me just to play in the NBA.

Bulls.com:
How would you envision yourself on the court with the Bullsí young big men in Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry?

Bosh:
It could be a good fit. Theyíre both young and athletic guys and you know they like to run up and down the court. Thatís something I like to do, but I can play in a half court set, too. Like I said, no matter who drafts me, Iíll be ready to go.

Bulls.com:
What pro position do you feel you are best suited for?

Bosh:
Right now, Iím hoping to play the four spot. With a lot of work, maybe Iíll be able to move out and play around the perimeter, but thatís down the line.

Bulls.com:
Is bulking up this summer a goal?

Bosh:
On yeah, I know I need to bulk up and get used to playing with bigger guys. Iím looking to add on another ten pounds and get to 235.

Bulls.com:
If you had to describe your game to someone who has never seen you play, what would you say your strengths and weaknesses are?

Bosh:
I think my main weaknesses right now are the ability to bang down low and playing defense down in the post. My strengths are being able to go by other big guys and posting up smaller guys.

Bulls.com:
Who in the NBA do you compare your game to?

Bosh:
Kevin Garnett, because heís got a great touch and he can really shoot. Heís thin, but he can hold his own down low. I also like Tim Duncan for the way he plays with his back to the basket and for his consistency.

i think he's staying because if he gets better that means the team is getting better. which he said he won't leave if the team gets better. so, why would he do this and then leave.

i don't think he cares what happens with the team, unless we get to like the conference finals or something close to that i don't think Bosh even thinks about coming back
wherever he goes, he'll probably end up teaming up with player/players that are better than what we have and he'll automatically be on a better team because of that
the absolute only 2 reasons why he would stay is if we get the big FAs next year and make us the top team, which won't happen and he'll probably get traded before next year's FA time comes along
or he actually has the desire to stick with 1 team and try and win it at any cost, which doesn't happen in sports these days, so again he's gone

yes its pretty obvious why Bosh is all gung-ho about training and getting bigger and stronger; this is his contract year. he wants to come out on fire and play the best ball of his career. he's as good as gone next season, its so easy to see.

I can't knock the guy for this, most guys don't get around to hitting the weights until the mature a bit. I call it our young Franchise guy learning to be a leader.

Who know what might happen down the road. 60 wins change a lot of peoples minds.

is there any possibility that Bosh gets traded at the trade deadline for some assets, and then at FA time we re-sign bosh?
doubt it, but i'm trying to find a positive

What separates Bosh from other Power Forwards, is his quick first step and his ability to drive past his man towards the bucket for a nice dunk or quick trip to the free throw line. Bosh has been in the Top Ten in free throw attempts the last couple of years. If you have a competitive advantage of your opponents, why ruin it by bulking up.

Would we have the same conversation if we had a center who could grab boards and have a defense presence in the paint?

well, bulking up doesn't necessarily equate to slowing down or losing your first step
there's a balance somewhere, there's probably a weight range where it will maximize his speed but also allow him some more strength
he just has to find where that balance is
right now he's just way underweight, i think he can gain some pounds without losing that speed, he just has to gain the right amount
but really, why are we so worried when he's been playing for 5 years and hasn't shown any signs of being able to gain weight let alone large amounts of weight

man, if he really puts on the weight and shows he is dedicated to beefin up, then he deserves a max contract, just hope his alien hands don't turn to stone.

Ever since i saw chris Bosh on day 1, all I could think of is that he LOOKS LIKE A GOD DAMN RAPTOR, surely someone has told him this, probably doesn't help him with the ladies. do you think that gets to him?

Even if Andrea doesn't show it all the time I'd say he's stronger than Chris. Maybe not as strong as he could be (or should be), but stronger than Chris.

andreea got bigger every year since he's been in the league. Which is a lot more than I can say about bosh, who's still the same weight he was 6 years ago ...
