Why can't Jose come off the bench??

Bayless has been relatively well since Jose's injury, if this is supposed to be a developmental year, why can't he start and Jose come off the bench?

MikeToronto 03-20-2012 06:20 PM

He absolutely could. If Casey and BC are happy with Bayless starting, they should keep him as a starter. But are they?

We are back to square one: yes, Bayless is playing better as a starter - but do the others play better with him as a starter? :sigh:

tommysdu 03-20-2012 06:29 PM

as well as bayless had played in the last couple of games, this team is better with jose in the starting role. bargs is tremendously more effective when playing with jose than he is with bayless, and that is not questionable. as much as the tank supporters are screaming for losses, casey is still playing for the win

Admiral 03-20-2012 06:33 PM

calderon is more effective as a starter mainly because of the players he would play with
he excels when he runs the pick and roll with guys like bargs and amir, off then bench he would be the "only" guy and he would not be able to handle the offensive load

To keep Bayless' value down so he signs for cheap in the offseason...

Jose is the ideal nba backup PG - conservative, doesn't take risks, limits turnovers, isn't aggressive, only shoots when open or has to, etc.

Fixed ;)

We want:
1. Increase Jose's trade value
2. Decrease JB's value
3. Lose more games

Therefore it's a no brainer.

Ex2k 03-20-2012 09:17 PM

Jose is 3rd IN THE NBA for assists per game....ahead of him is steve nash and rajon rondo...

Behind him is Chris Paul and Ricky Rubio.

He starts...

Shifty.py 03-20-2012 09:24 PM

Jose did nothing wrong to be demoted to the bench

But I agree it would work out better if Bayless started

To be fair, almost any NBA PG could average 8-9 assists per game if they are given 30+ mpg and don't seek to score much.

This is so false... :sigh:

Not really.

9 is a stretch, sure. But 7-8 assists per game when you don't look to shoot isn't that difficult when you're playing 30-35min. There are PG's in the league that average 20ppg (or roughly) and still get 6apg. Take 3-4 less shots and what do you get....a couple more assists. Especially when you dribble the ball for 20sec every posession.

MikeToronto 03-20-2012 11:56 PM

Stop editing, Jeff... ;)

The list of players averaging 7 or more APG this season:

1 Steve Nash
2 Rajon Rondo
3 Jose Calderon
4 Chris Paul
5 Ricky Rubio
6 Deron Williams
7 Tony Parker
8 Derrick Rose
9 John Wall
10 Mike Conley
11 Kyle Lowry

A lot of players lower on the list play over 30 mpg and yet...

Sure.

Just for you - both Nash and Rubio attempt 9.5 shots per game. Caldy - 9.2.

To be fair almost any NBA player could avg. 25 pts/gm if they're given 35 MPG and don't look to pass much.

So that Kevin Durant guy? Overrated as hell.

c wut i did thar?

People really need to check the hate and realize that what Jose has done (and is doing) is NOT easy.... because if it was more PGs would be doing it.

This +1

halphbreedballer 03-21-2012 08:39 AM

Still Bayless should have started with Jose coming back from injury...
Bayless was riding a hot streak, Casey should have sticked with the hot hand & ease Jose into the game.

Just for comparison sake:

Jose 13-28 when he starts
Bayless 4-7 when he starts

Getting 8-9 assists while having the ball in your hands 70-80% of the time on offense, and not looking to score much in 35 mpg, is a lot easier than scoring 25+ points while also looking to contribute in other ways in 35 mpg. They aren't even comparable.
