Why all the man love for DD?

I don't understand all this craziness about DD, he has not proven a thing yet. Sonny has shown more than DD, both last season and so far in the summer league, but gets no love at all.

If I had to trade one or the other I would rather trade DD than Sonny.

DeMar is 20 years old. Played better than Sonny last season. Has gotten to the line more than Sonny in the summer league, and has scored more than Sonny in the summer league. Sonny is a D-Leaguer, he's a back-up at best in this league. He's not even in the same universe in terms of offensive production and playmaking when put beside Barbosa. Colangelo was going to release him last year, he was traded for Roko Ukic for god sakes to balance out the deal in us getting Amir for Delfino.

Just because you like one doesn't mean you have to put the other one down.

I think Weems is better right now but DD has a higher potential. I like DD more though!

I disagree. Demar isn't forcing his game as much as Sonny. He is getting a ton of easy buckets in transition and his jumper and ability to create space for said jumper sets him apart from Sonny IMO. Plus, Sonny has a few years on Demar. No way I'd part with Demar before Sonny.

stopped reading after the first point. How in the hell can you say dd played better than sonny last season? weems is so much more consistent and although he gambled was better defensively, but so far in the summe rleague demar has impressed me more, sonny is just messing aound launching shots from left and right but still putting up numbers

Lao Wai 07-15-2010 01:04 AM

Both have the potential to be starters and frankly I'm really tired of this D League Shit.
The D is to give players time to develop most won't but some do.
It should be used by teams much more and I think Alabi would be perfect for at least of the part of a season there. It is better to play at a lower level than to sit at the end of a bench.

It was obvious that Weems was better prepared for the league and played better than DD. Hopefully they both continue to improve and maybe pick up others from summer league Brown and others.
better them taking up space than POB.

Demar simply has a higher ceiling than Sonny does, but he's made strides and bounds since being in the D-League a year ago, case and point: he's scorching other NBA rotational players and D-Leaguers in the summer league.

Demar is younger and will likely have a more productive career, I see him having the same potential as a Rudy Gay. If he develops his drive and mid range game he'll do just fine.

Favoriting this thread. Might bump it next April.

rapsmannn 07-15-2010 01:12 AM

ya Demar had a terrible rookie season

but that was to be expected considering he is a raw rookie in the same way bargnani was

patience is needed(even though none was shown for bargs which showed on the messages boards and blogs in his second and third year), guards do develop quicker htan bigs so it shouldn't take the normal 3 years to get demar going that it took bargnani, he should be hitting the ground running next season which already he seems on the way with his efforts in the vegas league

if demar steps his game up this season we could jump right into the playoffs considering bargs figured out how to get his game off

if demar has a bad season I hope people lay off him, young players take time to develop, no point in the home town fans trying to break his confidence with all the hate during games which bargs experienced not really the best thing about toronto fans

Sonny > DeRozan? Are you crazy?

DeRozan blows sonny out of the water.

t-bag 07-15-2010 01:20 AM

Don't really see how his rookie season was all that bad... everyone knew when he was drafted that he was very raw and he would be the 5th option on the court. Just because some of you jag-offs expected him to put up 20ppg doesn't mean he failed. His first year certainly left a lot of room for improvement, but people's expectations were completely unrealistic.

Barbosa is time for you to teach Weems and DD how to shoot the 3's; we're counting on you :reporter:

Shifty.py 07-15-2010 02:57 AM

Why ruin a perfect setup? If they are not shooting 3's they go inside and dunk the shit.
Demar is really good at getting to the line and finishing in traffic.
I would trust Sonny to bring ball up the floor. He improved the handles but could work on court vision.

Chiggmo 07-15-2010 03:03 AM

I think they're both just fine... Give em a chance for more then a year before you trash em, that goes for everyone thats trashing them both...

Shifty.py 07-15-2010 03:17 AM

Theres nothing to trash them for. They play within abilities, can score with the best and are down to earth.
Unlike Wright who made a few dribbles and shot couple shots too many. Amir, Sonny and Demar are not trying to do too much.

i wouldn't trade either of them.

they are both young and talented. we just have to wait and see how they develop.

DeRozan-Barnes-Bargnani
the 2011 Big 3

jrob23 07-15-2010 06:43 AM

Last season a ton of people were hating on him, i don't know where all this love came from to be honest

i only specifically remember people speaking negatively about him because i was a strong supporter all season long and continue to be, he has a great work ethic and desire to be great and knows that athleticism/natural ability can only get a player so far in the NBA, so he is constantly working out and practicing, he's looked great in summer league so far, can't wait to see him once the season starts.
