Raptors Who would you amnesty?

BC twice yesterday brought up the possibility of using our amnesty on someone this summer for extra capspace. Who would you amnesty if you had to choose?

I would pull a Cleveland move similiar to last year. They took the toxic contract of Baron Davis for LA's unprotected first round pick. That pick turned to Kyrie Irving. Now the Raptors have the most cap room (10 to 12million as per BC) prior to July 1 than any other team in the NBA, its time to make a move. However, I don't think Rogers or Bell have the risk tolerance or commitment to (throw away) money similiar to Mr. Gilbert. Right now, the Raptors have the lowest payroll in the NBA.

only case for amnesty is if one of these suffer debilitationg injury. Otherwise all three are worth their contracts.
We still pay their salary, but some other team gets to use their skills for peanut money? No thanks

We should have the lowest payroll, we're rebuilding and half our roster is on rookie contracts or vet minimums. You don't rebuild by having one of the higher salary structure. By training camp I'm guessing we'll be up against the tax as we usually were prior to the rebuild. BC in his final contract year imo has to make somethings happen in the next 4-5 months.

I would amnesty Calderon, I'm pretty sure the Spurs did that with Richard Jefferson and then re-signed him. If that is true I would do the same with Calderon and then re-sign him to a cheaper contract.

With RJ they let him waive his player option only to sign him for even bigger contract. So its opposite

i wouldn't use it on anyone unless it guaranteed someone of far superior talent coming in return. i guess you'd just have to look at it like you're trading the amnesty victim for that player. i hate the idea of just cutting a player like calderon/amir/linas who has solid value for absolutely nothing.

4.5Mil for him is fine. He has a good managable contract imo. He's the one on the list I would keep.

Oh that's right, you're not the Blazers. I thought it was 17 mil for one more season.

Assuming we can pick Barnes, I would think we have to amnesty kleiza to have any shot at a backup two guard and defensive centre.

I would assume since they didn't trade jose, that they are not trying to sign a PG through UFA.

Depends on what we pick-up in the draft ... If we get lucky with Anthony Davis ... good bye Amir. If we get a SF, good bye Kleiza

BC gave some clues on FAN590. He said the Raptors will be 10 to 12 million under the cap before July 1 and mentioned with the amnesty the Raptors can potentially be 20 million below the cap. Who makes 8 to 10 million with Raps? With some articles writing that Steve Nash will be target for the Raps, Jose would be the candidate.

I agree, he keeps mentioning 20Mil. And he's the only player other than Bargnani that gets us to 20Mil

it only makes sense to use the amnesty if you can make some major moves.
Calderon will have a ton of value next summer as an expiring contract who is starter level at PG. In fact, all the players in the poll are very, very tradeable.

tradeable....yes, but for what. you'd have to get teams interested, and those teams have to be offering something that fills our specific needs. Let's say there are 6-7 teams legimately interested in Jose, how many of those teams have a player(s) that fit what we need? It has to be a fit for us and that may not be that easy to get and amnesty might be easier depending on FA. In other words, i'd rather amnesty Calderon or whoever then take a questionable player with a so so or bad contract.

Next year, BC won't want to tank any longer. As such, he won't amnesty a player unless it strengthens the team by providing cap room to acquire an even better player.

I doubt Raps would use the amnesty clause unless they somehow obtain such player from another team in a trade.

The answer is definitely Amir Johnson in my opinion.

He's a decent player and still young but not worth the money were paying him for the production he gives the team. I know he does a lot of things that don't show up on the stat sheet but pretty soon he'll be coming off the bench once Jonas Valincunas arrives and becomes more seasoned. I still like Ed Davis much better as well as a back up PF. The things Amir does, even Aaron Gray could make up if we were too amnesty Amir who highly doubt teams would trade for because of his contract.
