Who says Bosh gets no publicity in the US?

Quote:
Bosh admits having trouble "voicing my opinion and being vocal" but finds himself through books. He's more likely to grab one than play cards or video games on road trips.

"My mom and my dad, they always were really big on talking properly and pronouncing your words and reading. I guess it builds into your characteristics as an adult," says Bosh, who guesses he reads about 14 books a year.

He has read Twilight, a series of four fantasy romance novels, and most recently Outliers, a non-fiction work about the various paths to achieving success.

"Books are good. I don't mean to sound like a geek but if it's a really good book sometimes I'll laugh out loud as I'm turning the page," he says, openly giddy about the joy he gets from reading. "Then I think to myself, 'Oh my God, I'm a dork.' "

Maybe an avant-garde destination such as Toronto is where Bosh belongs. He says it's like no other place in the NBA, an international city that embraces its diversity as it has Bosh and his eccentricities since 2003.

To stay with the Raptors, who haven't won a playoff series since 2001, Bosh says: "I want to win and be surrounded by guys who want to win and who work hard. That's all it is. The best teams do both."

The Raptors made several moves before the season by acquiring free agents Jack and Hedo Turkoglu, who both start.

"All the talk about trading (Bosh) prior to the deadline, him leaving (after the season) as a foregone conclusion, there's not a lot of truth to it right now," says Bryan Colangelo, Raptors president and general manager. "It would be counterproductive to make a move anytime prior to him becoming a free agent."

Jay Triano, in his first full season as coach, sees Toronto as a destination for free agents to land rather than leave, as Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady did: "As this franchise turns the corner, it's going to become more attractive for people to come here."

Bosh won't be quick to take a back seat. Despite his many layers, he has an ego, too.

"If I'm here," he says. "I'm still going to be the number one guy."

Being the number one guy doesn't necessarily refer to being the number one option on offense. He sees the bigger picture. He actually is the number one guy in terms of impacting various aspects of the game and setting a tone. Bargnani says himself that he lets the game come to him and he finds niches to exploit when given enough minutes. That's not something forced on him because Bosh is here. That's his game. And it actually compliments Bosh really well.

Yeah, I took it to mean this is his team. Colangelo as much said he's the cornerstone of the franchise.

If he goes to Miami, is he the main man? If he goes to LA, is he the main man?

Exactly - and then he's also stuck in a position similar to Hedo, where he has to get his mind around fitting into something that could be quite different. His whole abitlity to have some control over his environment and the future of the team will be drastically different. If he goes to LA, he could find himself traded to some wasteland in a heartbeat if Kobe says he needs something else.

we need to go over the cap, just like the other 10 teams over the cap, to have a real shot at anything. The best a team can do being under the cap is maybe, just maybe win one playoff round. After that its game over.

That is an insightful article. For all of us who think that Boston has the winning model, where stars cluster to one city and each takes a hit in stats, attention or being "the guy", you have to ask if Bosh is any different than Wade and LeBron. Neither of them want another guy coming in and saying "I'm running things now and calling the shots". So why should Bosh want that?

Those guys want him to go be their Scottie Pippen with no guarantees of success. If he sees himself as a top level player who will lead his team to victory, there are a lot worse situations than this one is turning out to be.

He always seems to mean what he says, so I believe that he really doesn't want to be Batman's Robin here or anywhere else.
