you're right about the TOs, wouldn't say it's a common occurence tho. Also kind of right about the jumpers but his season FG% is pretty good, so he's obviously not taking a ridiculous amount of them, he's pretty good getting to the hoop, that's his go to scoring method. He also improved his FT% considerably over the course of the season.

overall though in terms of your comparison to kleiza i mostly agree.
if anything, I've been too kind, in deference to those nights when he did actually play well (few and far between as they may have been).

The guy is 6th worst in the league among SFs in TOs, and that's horrendous when you consider that he very rarely handles the ball, all the top turnovers guys are either scrubs or superstar point forwards like lebron.

He is also 43rd in the league among SFs in shooting (TS), that's worst than almost all rotation SFs.

He is also 45th in 3p%, but at least he's not shooting too many of those.

He is 27th among qualified SFs in FTs attempted, which is average, but at only 1.9fta, the offensive impact is minimal.

The only area where he's somewhat good is creating for others, he's 22nd in the league in assists.

So he can't shoot, doesn't get to the line and somehow still makes more turnovers than almost all other SFs. Anyway you look at it, he's a very bad offensive player, so he needs to be a very good defensive player just to balance the books.

I think JJ CAN be an elite defender if he gets his act together and pays more attention to the coach (assuming he's smart enough to understand the nuances of the game), but he will never be a good offensive player, just too many holes and he's too old. His only hope to be a starter is to get much better defensively and learn to shoot the 3 when he's wide open.

And that brings me to the main issue, how he fits the team. If we keep derozan and andrea and we add JV, JJ's offensive role (if he wants to start) will be to space the floor. We don't need him to create for others, andrea, demar and the new guy will take care of that.

That's why I don't see a future for JJ here, even though I'd be ok to park him on the bench if we have space, give him another year or two to develop. I definitely don't see him starting next year, and I'd rather have LK off the bench instead of JJ.

20th among qualified SFs, and PER is skewed toward players who play less. Even so, 15 is average for the league, so he's below average. Furthermore, I'd rather have a 15 per player who gives me a 12-18 range every game, than one that goes from 1 to 30 and back to 1 the next game like JJ does.

If nobody looked at 33rd you really didn't get it.

Sigh... and please tell me its skewed to players that play less again after reading it.

i think you've taken my comment as sarcastic when it wasn't!! 20th in league for a 3rd season guy (only 2 seasons of proper playing time,) who was a 2nd round pick is good!!?? I was impressed by it!

moremilk- we won't agree mate. It's more in terms of the amount of evidence, not whether your comments are true or not. I watched all 66 games and didn't feel a bubbling up of annoyance with JJ! He has faults, which you've correctly highlighted but for me he was good in well over half of his games and has big upside still to come. That's just IMO.

I probably should have quoted milk. My point was in the comparison of players for this thread.
