i wouldn't say all of them. there's some players that would make pretty decent backups

The only real starter that we have on this team is Bargs. And him being on the floor means we need C and maybe SF who are good defenders, because he is still a hole in D

I think that Ed Davis (3rd big), Valanciunas (starting C) and DeMar (starting SG) will be rotation players for a long time.

In the short term Jose, Bargs and Bayless are probable keepers (unless upgrades can be found, which for Bargs is unlikely).

I'd say that it is worth keeping Kleiza at least through JV's rookie year.

Alabi has shown enough at the end of the season to be worth another look, and another year of development.

I'm on the fence about James Johnson, but I won't be after next season. It's time for him to develop some consistency.

I don't care much for anyone else. Some of them are really fun to watch, and I wish them all the best, but it doesn't make sense to get role players before the starters are secured.

This team has long term solutions to find at least at starting SF and PG, and first guard off the bench (if Bayless doesn't progress), and first wing off the bench (if JJ doesn't progress). Those are the priorities.

I'm not content at all. Jose - as much as I love the dude, his best fit is as an excellent backup.
I want Bayless to start or I don't want him on this team. He likely won't be back next season as BC looks to save $.
Uzoh-keep on the cheap.

DD does only one thing - get to the line. His mid-range game has improved but he is still so poor in terms of everything else.
AA-keep him on the cheap.

JJ was my fav raptor this year but then he had some issues at the end of the season.
LKZ will definitely be here next season to aid Jonas in his rookie year.

I love ED but he can't play C and BC will deal him as he won't deal Bargs.
Bargs is decent but he needs a SF who can rebound and a reliable established C beside him.
I have nothing against Amir except that he shouldn't play if he's injured. He may have contributed to this team getting a 8th pick instead of 7th or 6th.

Gray - although he played solid, he will command more $ which the raps can use elsewhere. Therefore, he won't be missed.
Magloire - wouldn't mind him coming back as long as he barely plays.
Alabi - wouldn't mind to have him as a 5th big. However, wouldn't be surprised to see him gone and wouldn't be a big loss either.

I like a lot of the guys on the team. I can see them fitting in on some other teams in the league quite well.

However, anyone on this team can go. I'm not really attached to anyone. As long as the player fits in with the culture of this team, I'm fine. The guys who half-ass it, who take plays off or well who just aren't good, they can go.

Ideally I want guys who are building pieces towards a championship team. If none of the guys on this team are that, then well, they can all go.

As in all trades, depends who we'd be talking about.

We were considering Ed and the 7th/8th for the 3rd pick vs Ed and the 7th/8th for a known starter. Ed's the bitch in our trade fodder. sorry, Ed.

JJ is a better player than Klieza by most measures, and liklely better than DD.

No way, he may have more potential, but right now kleiza is hands down the better player. Offensively ok is miles ahead of jj, and while on some nights jj is very impressive defensively, on others he's quite bad.

But the biggest thing is that kleiza has a very clear role which he performs fairly well (scorer off the bench), while jj is as uneven as they come and you never know what you'll get from him.

guys that we should move for next season

demar,amir, james johnson, bayless,alabi,

guys i would keep

alan anderson, ben uzoh, magloire, gray, ed davis, bargnani, Calderon and kleiza

obviously we have to upgrade at the 2,3

o.j mayo and kirolenko would be better than james and demar, plus if we trade down in the draft and select a marshall i would be pumped about that, obviously jonas is coming in so we have to move one of ed davis or amir, i took ed davis because he is flat out better than amir

magloire would become the new alabi just there for experience,

i wouldn't mind adding anthony parker for experience guy off the bench

if demar would come off the bench than i would keep him but i think he sees himself as a starter, obviously antoher good player would be added if we moved demar, lets say we moved demar for tyreke evans

center jonas, gray, magloire
pf bargnani, ed davis
sf kirolenko, kleiza, alan anderson
sg mayo, tyreke evans,anthony parker,
pg calderon, kendall marshall, ben uzoh ( who reminds me of a poor mans rondo)

obviously tyreke evans would become the 6th man

thats a ton of experience with two rookies moulded into the roster

All I know is that someone has to go. I don't care who it is. As long as we sacrifice "someone".

I think Uzoh is more like the homeless man's rondo.

I'm more concerned with putting together a core that will clearly remain intact for some time. All I see here is guys that would do a nice job of filling out the team and complimenting a potential core. Here's where I look to see if there is a real plan.

Just don't make the same mistake as 3/4 (?) years ago when Raptor's dumped all but 3 players. In return we got Turko, a bunch of overpaid scrubs and a lot of headaches....Bryan.....please don't let that happen again this year. A lot of good pieces this year to build on for 2013

JJ has been one of the most consistent Raptors this season. Even coming from Casey himself.

i think you've been too harsh on JJ there. There's been very few games where he's been less than average on D. And he's had a lot of efficient, decent scoring nights.

overall though in terms of your comparison to kleiza i mostly agree.

JJ takes a lot of ill advised jumpers, he just doesn't have the range to play like that.

He needs to either get much better at shooting those shots, or he needs to refine his shot selection.

Also he has nights where he is very careless with the ball and commits far too many turnovers.
