Who are the keepers?

Who are the keepers on this team at this point?

We are half way through the first season of a rebuild, and who are the players you look at and say we need to keep them going forward. Players that not necessarily are franchise players but are or could be very important pieces for us going forward?

For me, Bayless, Derozan, Davis, Amir are our main pieces going forward. They're players that need to continue growing and improving together. IMO Bargnani is a wash for me, if we can get a good player for him at a position of need (namely SF) do it. Barbosa i want back next season but after his contract expires i'm not sure he'll be back. Other then that none of the other players do anything for me. As much as i like Kleiza he's been disapointing and doesn't seem to fit in.

I don't think there's a single player who should be here without a doubt next year. Any of them can be packaged in a trade to make this team better. I would say, though, that I agree with Bayless, DeRozan, Davis, Johnson, and Bargnani if you can get the right pieces around him and he is in the right role. That's not a bad core going forward, particularly if those players can fulfill their potential.

I would love to see all these players come back.
The only one position i would like to see upgraded is bayless. He reminds me of TJ ford sometimes when he drives the lane. He is pretty quick and sometimes his brain and arms dont react as quickly as his feet.

Jeff forgot Triano and Jose on his list...

as starter i would keep : DD
as backup i would keep : bayless, barbosa, wrigth, amr, davis.

so if bayless can make some game like lkast night i would agree he can become more a starter, and i think davis would become one in the future.

so we need a big center and at minimum a stud SF.

the other can go in trade or expiring.

tought i would keep evans, but not as starter, plus as 3rd backup PF.
i like dorsey, but i don't think he will be around much.

and we have 2 prospect center in ajinca and alabi, lets see what they can bring in the next seasons.

and in the regard of jose, even if i don't like him much, i would say in his favour that he fit well this year. and with the new cba coming i don't see many team which would take his contract.

so at pg, with bayless and jose + one draft choice, we will be fine.
at sg with DD and barbosa, we will be fine, especilly if next season barbosa can come back healthy.
at sf, wright seems to be more confident, and he is our best defensive plauer, so keep him. but we need a SF starter.
i repeat i think pietrus will fit well here, and i think BC could grab him for some tpe.
at pf, we are fine with our 2 young, and Reggie as our 3rd.
but the Center position is one problem. we really need a 15/10 guys at thi position, and there not so many.

but kleiza contract, except a buy out, will be difficult to move, weems is expiring, dorsey too.

so we dont have too many change to do :
just a sf and a C.

bargs can go + weems + dorsey + kleiza
and bring 2 draft + a solid SF and a big C.

maybe triano can stay. if player are confident with him, keep him, if not make now some search for a new head coach. or the problem maybe is a confident defensive assistant, who can pair with triano offense (whichis good in fact)

J-Bo 01-25-2011 11:36 AM

derozan, bayless, johnson, davis, bargnani

Crpe 01-25-2011 11:41 AM

DeRozan, Ed Davis, Amir, Bayless, Baa...Baa...Baarrrgnn... Definitively, I can't say it.

FoldedLaundry 01-25-2011 11:49 AM

DD, Davis, Bargs, Bayless, Amir and Wright. I think we can develop Wright into a solid player. I'm waiting on Weems for a proper evaluation. With 2 picks this year, we can either put that towards the PG/C, PG/SF, or SF/C

Scully 01-25-2011 11:53 AM

I would keep all our PFs including Reggie. Bayless and Barbosa.

I think Jose has to go. Bargs and Kleiza and DDR could go or stay, depending on what you get in return. I think one of the three has to go.

Bargs I think maybe the easiest to replace. If you can get a D first center, with more touches going to Kleiza, you would hardly notice Andreas absence.

I think the main goal for this team is to compile the players necessary to keep their points against average below 99. I think if Bc does this, regardless of who they lose they will get 40 wins and a good look at the playoffs.

box92 01-25-2011 11:55 AM

derozan, bayless, davis, amir, if bargs can somehow develop his rebounding and defense he can stay if not trade him for something useful

SomeDPlease 01-25-2011 11:59 AM

Fuck Bargs, he's a lost cause at this point in terms of rebounding.

finstock 01-25-2011 12:03 PM

The only assets I consider untouchable are our first round picks for the next few years. Sure the draft can be unreliable, but it can also build contenders. All you can do is trust your scouting and hope for the latter.

If that's the case then he's a lost cause when it comes to consistent effort.

Raps fans are too quick to give up on talent, especially when they should be patient like in rebuilding years.

AB, DD, Davis are the three pieces to build around. If Jose can't be moved, he can still be a good player that also mentors Bayless going forward... PG is not a major concern at this point in the build.

Amir is a borderline piece, based on his salary, but does have the talent and upside to be part of what we're building. In no rush to see him go if at all.

Kleiza, Weems, Evans, Dorsey... all expendable, but little value.

Wright should be kept if reasonable money. I'd keep Barbosa too, but really depends on that next big piece to come as well.

5yrs is too quick? Seriously this guy is one of the most frustrating athletes i've ever watched. And after 5yrs we know what we have in Bargnani. A 7 footer that disapears for stretches who lacks consistent effort, seems uninterested far to often on D and can't rebound (due to previously mentioned lack of effort). His mentality and personality is not one of an ambitious winner.

Once again i agree whole heartedly.

If, as Jack was saying last night, that you look for the guys that bring it each and every night, then the list should include Davis, Johnson, Wright, and Bayless. The guys that have gotten a little too much leeway, DeRozan and Bargnani really have to show something in the remainder of the schedule. I'd say DeRozan is looking like a guy willing to round out his game on both ends, and seeing that he's still figuring things out, he would likely be a keeper. Bargnani has had five years and doesn't play the game at all on one end, and doesn't even show consistency on the offensive end. He is going to have to show us that he is bringing something at least, if he lacks the ability to bring "it".

But overall, I would agree that nobody is untouchable.

m5racer 01-25-2011 01:01 PM

:haha: keepers.....

Don Vito 01-25-2011 01:16 PM

Bayless, DeRozan, Amir, Davis, Barbosa, Evans. The reason I said Evans is because he is like a coach to the young guys, every team needs a tough vet who can keep everyones head in the game.

fresh n' spicy 01-25-2011 02:28 PM

bayless, reggie, amir, derozan, and davis. Bargs is terribul for a centre who averages like 5 rebounds a game or 4 he needs to score 40 points just to make up for his deficencies shouldve drafted lamarcus aldridge but a wise man one said: what the fuck are you gona do? :sigh:
