Default Who do we wanna play in the playoffs?

With 10 games left until playoffs the Raps are currently paired with the Magic (who beat us 2-1 in series)

Other possible teams to play:

Detroit: Series - 2-1 Pistons

Cleveland: Series - 3-1 Cleveland

Washington: Series - 3-1 Washington

Boston: Series - 3-1 Boston

If you think about it, we're not in the best spot for the playoffs, thoughts?

I'd prefer to play the Magic or the Wizards.
I think two of the Wizards games were really close, and we ended up losing in both those close games.

We matchup well against the Magic.

We will get destroyed by Detriot and Cleveland.

I dont think we'd get destroyed by CLE, but we'd lose in the worst way imaginable. Close game til the end, then Lebron owns us and none of our players can score. We'd lose in 6 IMO.

I think we can beat the Magic because they cant stop the #1(bosh) and#2(pgs) options of our offence. Our main problem would be guarding the Hedo/Howard pick and roll in the fourth since I have no faith in Smitch to make good adjustments in game and especially over the course of a playoff series.

We match up better with WAS WITH Arenas in then out if that makes any sense. We're not gonna play them anyway so meh. With Arenas= less D, us picking them apart. Without= they play much better D and are more active o nthe boards+ Roger Mason owning us for cutting him for Milt.

Detroit would beat us in 5, since they always lose game 3 to whoever they play in round 1.

Best case scenario is the Raps(and wiz) nearly running the table and getting the 4th seed to face WAS, 2nd best is 3/6 with ORL. The rest is uch.

I'm leaning more towards the Magic at this point eventhough I think they'll beat us too.

Washington will be too unpredictable because we won't know how effective Arenas will be until he gets a couple games under his belt considering he hasn't played yet this year. Cleveland or Detroit would either sweep us or beat us in 5. I know some are confident of a Cavs/Raptors match-up, but LeBron is a whole new beast when it comes to playoff time. One that I fear.

Honestly, for myself it doesn't matter. All of those teams possess match up problems but we can possess match up problems for them as well when you think about it.

Our guard play can, when they're on the same page, can cause some problems for both Clevleand and Orlando.

Bosh can cause havoc for Washington (has in the past) and Orlando as well. Rasho does a great job of defending D12. Plus I would say, our bench with Calderon, Bargnani and Delfino and even Kapono (don't forget him) could be a huge X-Factor against anyone of those teams.

cleveland is the type of team would could get to the finals by winning only 4-3 series .... They don't have the talent to blow anybody, and they'll fight to keep the games close until the end when Lebron will do his thing. We'll probably lose 4-2 or something like that. Detroit and Boston can easily beat us 4-0, unless they relax and we get one at home. Orlando could go either way, but we definitely have a chance against them. If Howard gets into foul trouble, they are toast, and Bosh has the ability to do that to Dwight.

going on what this team has done thus far up until now, i dont see us beating anyone in a seven game playoff series. to win you need to play consistent ball which is something this team hasn't done since december. our longest win streak in the last two months is three games, which isnt getting it done.
i dont like our chances against any of the teams for the simple fact that we're limping into the playoffs and the sense of urgency switch has come one a bit too late.
but, if i had my choice i'd take orlando. washington seems to score at will on us and cleveland has lebron so they win by default. for my thoughts on orlando, see thriller's post.

And the two teams below us (which doesn't matter much):

Philadelphia - 3-1 Raptors

Atlanta - 2-0 Raptors (1 left)

Bump - added Boston/Raptors series in first post

Simple. Orlando. Think about the top 4 teams in the East - Boston, Detroit, Orlando and Cleveland and out of the 4, the best team we match up against is Orlando. Think about last year and the New jersey series. They were 6th but they beat us out. I think if we face them in the playoffs, I'd have a good feeling about it.

Here's a question?

If we beat Orlando or whomever end up facing in the first round, does it make up for a lacklustre season?

I think it does. It means we made it further than last season, and it's a step in the right direction.

raps fans got spoiled last year by serious overachievement and a ton of close games going our way, i dont think we underachieved this year that much, but losing Garb and TJ for extended periods sure didnt help, but going to 1st round and losing was about what i expected from such a young team with still so many holes to fill. Making it to the 2nd round, i would consider a very good year.

i want Orlando.
for a couple reasons...
1. i dont want to play anyone else
2. we are actually more playoff experienced then them... its true.

So I guess it's decided, we wanna play Orlando in the playoffs, so we'll stay at 6th.

Which is good because Orlando is not gonna move from their postition cause they're 6 wins away from Cleveland and 5 wins away from Detroit. The problem is us though; we could move anywhere from 5-7 easily which will put us against Detroit and Cleveland.

in the end, our playoff success starts and ends with CB4. Boston, Detroit and Cleveland have proven repeatedly that they can stop Bosh without much trouble. Orlando and Whasington has yet to show that. Also, our pgs will dominate their pgs (Orlando). So yes, while we have no real weapon against their bigs, the same applies for them against Bosh/Jose/TJ, so at least it's an open series. Against the other 3 teams, no sane person would give us a chance ...

so... we're tied with Washington, eh?

It's kind of silly to put too much weight into who we play though. There are still quite a few games to play before this can be realised.

At this point i just want the Raptors to play strong from here on in, and develop some real cohesion heading into the playoffs.

Then we can worry about who we're facing. Hopefully Orlando, but it looks like it may be Cleveland now.
