Default Who could replace KL?

If we can not match the best offer KL gets (lets say someone offers him 60 mill for 4 years), who are the main candidates to replace him in the current market? Would we have any chance of getting a genuine starting PG from free agency? Would there be a starting PG caliber ready to go in this year draft? Would we be running the risk of having to start GV next year if KL is gone?

Moreover, his salary next year is 13mil and then he would be a free agent, so I am not sure if it would be a good move in the long term?

I did not included trade in the opening post because I think that anyone that trade a starting PG at this point, would end up in the situation we would be if KL is gone, therefore, unless someone is trying to unload a player with a big salary (over 12 mill, which is a salary we could not pay anyway) then I see no reason why any team would trade their starting PG this year?

He wouldn't be able to match his defensive toughness, but Isaiah Thomas would be a great fit with this team if KL were to go. A young, fearless PG who can score on anyone, and do so in a super efficient matter. Casey would need to scheme to try and hide him in certain matchups, but that's what he's paid for. Thomas is awesome.

Rondo would be ideal though obviously. He'd make JV look so good it'd be scary for other teams. That pick and roll would be unguardable.

don't forget Amir on the PaR. Amir's PaR with Jose was impeccable. Now imagine it with Rondo who can actually slash, or rather, is willing to.

If we where to get IT we then would have to led Vasquez go, otherwise, our team of PGs would be the worst defensive pair in the whole of the NBA. Additionally they played together this year in Sac and it did not work at all. (although GV was not 100%)

I don't know why you guys keep going on with Rondo. In this scenario KL would be gone because we did not match an offer he got, which would mean we did not want to expend more then 11 or 12 mill in our PG, therefore Rondo whose salary is 13 mill next years is out of the picture.

That's not what it means at all.

Maybe MU thinks Rondo is worth more than KL.

well said. Although at this point, I don't really know if he is. Similar age, but Lowry is coming off a career year, and off a leadership role. Rondo's never been the true leader on his team. He just played incredible off a few HoFs.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly think Rondo (healthy) is worth more than KL, but that does not change the fact that paying 13 mill for our PG and loosing assets to get him, puts us in a very difficult situation for next year

Yeah. That's not happening. Not to mention that Rondo could easily kill the chemistry. In any case Lowry's not going anywhere.

I would hope so, but I am not convinced that someone crazy will not offer him 14 mill a year for 4 years, and if someone does, I am pretty sure we will not match that

We shouldn't. I love Lowry but he's not worth more than 11-12mil/yr imo.

I agree, which takes me back to my original question, what do we do with our starting point guard situation if KL is gone and we DO NOT want to spend over 13 mills in that position?

My guess is sign GV and aquire a decent backup and go from there. Although I really don't see anyone offering KL a near max contract.
