This year has been refreshing... The love affair with Bosh was ridiculous. I don't even want to crown another supposed franchise player, but at least I'm not having to watch that boring and ineffective basketball anymore. Bosh is a good player, but building around him to keep him happy was arduous and fan-unfriendly.

Would better youth development make this team more exciting? Of course. So many bought into the 'young ones' fun videos and such (almost as much as Bosh's unfunny videos), but those three clearly aren't the core three going forward... but I don't mind watching this supporting cast operate until we get supremely lucky with another Vince-like talent.... if we ever do.

I don't watch as many games as I used to, but I'm turning off far fewer blowout losses halfway through the third this year than last year. The expectations of last year were very frustrating... this year there aren't any. It's a start.

You know whats funny.

Bosh is emerging as the more solid of the three over in Miami on many nights.

What a dick.

Ssshhhhhh.... Bosh-lover!!

I still watch 95% of the games (I've missed a few here and there) but it's getting harder & harder to follow them sans Reggie. He was the one player this season who really made me jump out of my seat. The rest of the guys just seem like a collection of mindless zombies most nights... just chucking their way to another loss.

I still have love for Jose (nice to see him bounce back this season) and Kleiza has been solid after recovering from his injury.... Dorsey and Davis have made me smile too.... but the rest? The effort just isn't there on most nights... so how am I (as a fan) supposed to get excited about that?

You name the Basketball experience you can have, we had it, everyday, for at least 3 hours a day, often more.

We were at the YMCA one day talking to Mike Smrek (some of you might member Mike, he played for the Lakers) He was telling us that if Toronto ever got a team we should thank our lucky stars. He was right.

Remember the kick out to Alvin for the first Hoop ever??? I do, and his last name wasn't Williams!!!!!

Remember The 72 win Bulls.... ya so Does Damon Stoudamire, fondly.

Remember Zan Tabac? Remember how he could hit the top of the back board with a baby hook from 2 feet, painfully, I remember that too. And Vincenzo, and watching Carlos drive around is a bloody Bentley, AFTER he'd been traded during the summer because dammit, he liked Toronto.

I remember those years fondly because back then, we truly felt and knew how big of an underdog our Team was. Not just because of players, or talent, or management and coaching, but because of cultural ignorance and media ignorance. I used to play basketball against Greg Newton, he was good enough to lead the Blue Devils in the Big Tourney, yet, the announcers still made it sound like we had no idea what Basketball even was up here. We took it personally, because we used to play pick up games against the kids from Buffalo, and Niagara falls, and they weren't any better than us.

I guess it's what you grow up enjoying. I was lucky enough to be around for the start of a franchise that may be around for my Grandkids. I know they are terrible, and I certainly do grill them every time I get a chance. But for me, like many of the older guys here, it's simply tough love for a team we still love, but can't afford to get to attached too.

I'm still A Toronto Raptor fan. I always will be. It's no fun when they suck, but if you are like me, its the little things.....

- watching a young guy make a good play, like davis, when he out quicks a guy on his drop step.
- forgetting that Bargnani is at a grade 11 level defensively, because he just blew your mind at how utterly unstoppable he can be offensively when he puts his mind to it. Trust me, you won't see many players that can do what he can in your lifetime. Enjoy the glimpses, he may never fully evolve, but hell, the glimpses are sublime.
- Seeing a guy like Triano succeed. He was a basketball hero for a few of us. A Canuck that could play with the best in the world. And now, we get to see a good man live his dream as the coach of the only Canadian franchise. Little fact for you, give that guy a contending roster, he's coach of the year, the dude is a fantastic coach.
- Vince Carter, Damon, T-Mac, Bosh, Turk, Mo Pete, Chauncey, hate these guys for having the nuts to bail on a situation they hated, I know I have hated um for it, but they were fun while we had them (well, maybe not Chauncey).
- seeing glimpses from guys that wouldn't have had a chance elsewhere.... and enjoying them when they came.... Who DIDN'T love Keon??? Pops??? Big ole Garth, Menghe...... ESPOSITO!!!! These guys are all shit, but they were good here and there and we loved um.

There's a lot for me to go into, so I'm stopping as I know most you guys havent even read this far. But ya know, fuck the rest of the league, my team is in my home, and I am cheering for the hometeam.

Always.

Go Raps
(they're still shitty)
+1
There are fans in Montreal ad Vancouver, and multiple U.S. cities that would give up their firstborn for what we complain about. One day the team will have mystique and history and mean more to Canadians. Those of us who have started on things like collectibles from the early days will be glad they did.

SuperJ what you said make a lot of sense for me.

when in france people ask me why i'm a Raptors fan, and not a lakers, heatn, bulls (a little in fatc), mavericks or anyteam else, i answer this :

toronto is the last no-US team in the NBA. The nba is the best league of BBall actually, and follwing this team, this candian team (yes if Raptors were mexicans i don't think i watch them) is a pleasure.

i don't forget the first time i watch a game about toronto. in 1997 at the end of the season.
i don't remenber against who, and not the score, but i like the effort on the court. it was in toronto (not the acc yet) and the crown was good, the player make someplay that i say to me : yeah, this is some basket i want watch.

and to go in your way, if France have a nba franchise, i think i would support them with all my heart (not if it's a Paris team).

but i miss some thing in the Raptors home game, some ambiance / noise. when i go see a game in france (Cholet, from where come beaubois, seraphin, etc...), we have some songs, some scream... and i don't understand why in toronto there are not this things.

if the people in the ACC can make more noise, don't wait playoffs please, it will be more entertaining, and more attractiv for some player i think.

some one ask what we are as fan, and i would say i'm a Raptors fan. i think a lot about this team since 2008-2009 season. i was not a Bosh fan, but i'm not a barg fan too, and even not a caldy fan.

i have expectation with kleiza and DD, some with davis, even if i think i would go just after his 4 year.
bayless show some good thing when he is in charge, but yet i don't see bright futur for him. but who knows exactly ?

i watch every game, if it(s too late i watch in the morning or later in the day, but i don't miss any game since two year, and i'm happy with it.

last year expectation were too high. Bosh, turk and Bargs don't play well together and jack and caldy were not the solution at PG pair.

this year, caldy don't blaze me like the past 2 yeats, DD finally show he can do some things., barbosa is a great plus for this team. and the young ones, i don't care, if only they can show us in game 1/10 what they show during their little summer video.

i let down weems, because when he said he was the best guard in this team, i lose all credit i have.
too selfish, too stress and too frustrating to watch him in this system.

but unlike last season, this roster show more effort, more defense (hard to see, but true)
and they seems to like toronto.
can they show us that they can play together, and be healthy, maybe then we could watch some game without all the WTF or frack shit word in our mouth.

but like crepe, i think there is a trade or 2 coming soon (before all star) somaybe this roster can be way better after that and for the next seasons.

just one thing :
we don't have 3 pick this year.
the 2rd round pick own by memphis in 2011.
and the miami pick is not garanty. so tank is not so much an option with only one pick guaranty, and we don't yet if it would be a high pick.

in the matter of where i m right now with this team, this franchise, i'm 100% behind them. and for long time.

go Raptors ! go Raptors ! go Raptors ! go Raptors ! go Raptors ! go Raptors ! go Raptors ! go Raptors ! go Raptors ! go Raptors !

ps : somebody could write a song for the home game, or somes ?

I'm still behind them and follow them steadily, and watch all the games I can, but they're pretty boring to watch most of the time. None of the young guys are really showing any kind of serious breakout potential, our best player is sort of hum-drum in his own way, and the future seems far off. The talent level just isn't there, and the sort of middling game we see night after night isn't fun.

I don't see much of a genuine offensive system or philosophy on the court from the staff either, but with this level of basketball talent I guess I can't fault them for it.

It's made even more apparent when I watch other young and exciting teams like the Knicks and the Thunder. I'm obviously a fan to the bitter end but this team is one of the less exciting incarnations in recent memory. I'd rather we amass draft picks for our mediocre guards if possible and see what happens in the future.

This team is not fun to watch anymore. I mean there are sometimes when they are running and gunning and throwing alley-oops everywhere but its not consistent. I am still a raps fan for life but I am still waiting for that "one" player who will turn us around.

I think the only way we will go somewhere and even think about a championship is if we get a superstar like lebron, kobe etc. Star players may not be important for a team to win but as a fan they are fun to watch. We need the excitement back like the VC days...

Oh and our young development this season is a big fail. But I am impressed with bargnani's growth and I have been a Bargnani hater in the past.

I can't say with certainty that I'll be a fan for life. Even though I go back to the days of Dr. J. Basketball wasn't my first love back then. Baseball was my life as a little leaguer and right up to early adulthood. Now - I don't even watch more than ten minutes of the playoffs. I'm a bit like the Orchid Thief guy in adaptation. I'm not glued to any particular passions forever.

Like Bosh, I gradually lose steam as the season progresses. I'm still a proud Raptors fan though. Even though friends deride my team, I'm quick to point out that they are only Lakers, Heat, or Thunder fans because they aren't true basketball fans, willing to endure the dark ages of perpetual cellar dwellers. Yay for martyrdom!

I started being of a fan of the Raptors in 06/07. I can recall the Raps losing to the Nets in game 6 and feeling like it was the end of the world.

I'm in a situation where I have LP but my free proxy trial ran out so I can no longer illegally watch them through LP international when I have a proxy from france or wherever, so I'm having to watch games on ATDHE and its nearly impossible for me.

Its bad enough they're painful to watch, but in normal quality too? I just cant do it. Especially when theres an OKC DAL game on in high definition.

I've probably only watched 75% of the games so far, if that. Last year I watched every one but the ones where I was out, and I usually watched the replay if they won.

It's hard having to go through this again after like 6 straight years of it before we finally made it with Bosh. And even then after the first playoff appearance it was painful because of the D.

This organization is a joke. One second round appearance in 16 years. No consistancy. It's amazing we're still all fans. I just cant mentally detach from the team though, so I'm still supporting them.

Let's face it. Even those with dying interest have to admit that the second they become contenders, they'll be back. I went when they were in the playoffs and have never, ever seen a Toronto crowd that loud or that electric.

We've been stiffed, knocked and mocked too much to miss out when it gets good. We have something to prove and it can only happen by winning.
