Ok were terrible in every statistical catagory, our record sucks, and we have generally no ability to close out a game... ever... So we'd really be just as trash as we are now. So Jose still means nothing!

On the other hand, Jose (once again) is rising above the petty injustices and injuries and is leading the team to the best of his abilities.

All I want is some recognition and some contrition. And yes, him re-signing this coming off-season and retiring as a Raptor, with Ocho proudly hanging from those bare basketball rafters.
Love this thread - thank God for Caldy is right. He's garnered a lot of negativity on this board for a long time which I've never understood. Dude bleeds right white and black and I'm glad to see he's having a good season for us. That is all.

But what "much" are they going to give up? Jeff acknowledged that a trade would be possible with a 3rd team involved, if you read his post properly. The point is that few teams can do anything straight up, and it gets worse the longer you wait.

For example....

Quote:
Think the Lakers wouldn't like him there backing up Nash?
How are they going to make that move? What salaries are they going to send back in order to make the trade work under the CBA? Other than picks, why would we take anything from them? In a straight up situation, what do they have that we need?

Quote:
How about in OKC spelling Westbrook (or letting him play off the ball)?
Again, what are they going to send back? Martin is playing very solid right now, so no way in hell do we get him. What do they give us to make the salaries work? Perkins? He is playing crappy, and will just take time from JV. He only has value if a 3rd team is involved.

Quote:
In MEM backing up Conley?
Again, what do they send us?

Quote:
In CHI running the show until Rose is ready to take over full-time again?
Are they going to give us Deng? No. So what salary are they going to send us to cover Caldy's $10 mill? We have no use for Boozer or Taj. What do they give us?

Quote:
As a steadying influence in CHA?
Jordan already blocked one trade for Jose. And they already have enough to trouble distributing back-court minutes between Kemba, Henderson, and Ben Gordon and Sessions, especially when all four are healthy. How is Jose going to fit in that mix? It's an unlikely scenario.

Quote:
Maybe in GS as well?
They already have a solid back-up in Jarret Jack playing behind Curry. And they want Curry at PG so that they can start Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes on the wings.

So, really, when you read Jeff's post, there is nothing wrong with what he is saying. It is accurate. Without a 3rd team involved, it's hard to find a good deal. You might be able to find a taker, but Jeff is talking about getting "much" back. I suspect he means more than a shit contract, or a redundant piece at PF that we don't need.

For the record, I didn't give you thumbs down. I see what you're trying to say, although I think you're nitpicking in the very way that you claim to hate from others.

If you're saying that you meant the whole deal including the past seasons, then he made $9+ mill per year. Is that one million worth calling Halph crazy? I guess so.

People were quick to correct you because you called it "crazy talk" when it wasn't clear that Halph was even talking about the past, but rather this year's salary and going forward. I interpreted his statement to mean that Jose is fine so long as he takes a paycut. Without a paycut, he would be a $10+ mill player on his next contract. I viewed Halph's comment as a basic common sense point, not crazy talk.

Jose Calderon is a good player and has been a good Raptor but let's not kid or get ahead ourselves,he's no saviour. He will leave as a free agent, not because he doesn't want to play in Toronto but because he probably wants a better shot at a deep playoff run with a championship contending team and he deserves that opportunity. The better he plays for the Raptors before the trade deadline, the more his value increases which means that Bryan Colangelo could likely acquire more for Jose, let's just leave it at that.

I would expect 1-9 or 2-8 without Calderon. Can't think of any backup PG from FA market, who is capable of competing as a starting PG.
