Where Will the Raptors Trade Rudy Gay? | Bill and Jalen's 2013 NBA Preview | Rank no.

I guess they didn't say anything that wasn't said before. But they seem convinced that the Raptors are going to blow the team up.

Funny stuff. Pretty accurate too.

LX 10-09-2013 08:54 AM

Ugh. Bill can't even pronounce Jonas or Bargnani.

fancylad 10-09-2013 09:45 AM

I agree with the notion that they've really got to tank. There's too many uncertains with this roster and money to be tied up with players like Gay and Lowry.... i just don't see them having any significant success nor do i even think those two are a likely to even want to renew their deals. So ya i do think Ujiri will try to trade Gay and i think we're in for another lottery.

3 possibilities for this season and they all hinge on if a Gay trade happens:
If they trade him early they go for the tank properly. If it's a late trade, then they won't properly tank. If they keep Gay they will play for a bottom playoff seed.

Well said.

Or Ujiri.

Jalen made it sound like a stretch that Demar is going to average 18 points this year when that's exactly what he averaged last year.

fancylad 10-09-2013 10:46 AM

i also raised my eyebrows when he said demar was a good 3 point shooter.

nevertheless i think they're main talking point was pretty spot on.

I'm pretty sure I posted that exact trade in the trade thread - Antetokounmpo, Butler, Udoh for Rudy. Might've had a lowry for knight + pick in there too.

That deal would be a highway robbery! i saw the same proposal on realgm, just out of curiosity does anyone also post on realgm?

halphbreedballer 10-09-2013 11:55 AM

Were not tanking till MU sees what we have first:mu:

AR1815 10-09-2013 12:02 PM

Simmons stays hatin. I definitely wouldn't mind getting Rondo, though...

jeffb 10-09-2013 12:11 PM

What's a Tdot?

Entertaining though..:tv_happy:

I don't post but I got there quite a bit.

Some of their posts on this topic made me chuckle:

Bill Simmons plays the Bruins v. Leafs game 7, obviously. I turned the video off when he said that Bargnani was "feisty". That is honestly the worst description of Bargnani I have ever heard. Even his biggest supporter would never call Bargnani "feisty".

I'm a fan of Simmons and co., as long as you take them with a large bucket of salt, but man this was brutal. I'm not even going to list all of the things they got wrong. Yikes.

I agree with what I've heard, except I am pretty sure they were seriously off on the amount of taxes being owed by players in Toronto vs. anywhere with the state tax in the US. If we have someone with knowledge in this area, I'd love to hear a comment on current state of affairs there.

again the taxes come up. this stuff surfaces enough to make the think it really is a factor (however small it may be). Colangelo used to try to dispell it like the tax situation was an advantage here, but i can't buy that.

He always said there were "ways around it", whatever the fuck that means. lol

There are sections put into the CBA that allow for tax relief for Toronto players (since the early 2000's), through various mechanisms. It works out so Raptors players pay about the same tax as the high tax states like NY.

LX 10-09-2013 01:00 PM

I get why guys are saying this is accurate, but there was so much in there that was inaccurate it isn't even funny. This was just two guys piling on with the usual bullshit.

The cost of work permits is in the hundreds of dollars, and none of it or any other tax goes to the fucking Queen. There really might be a chance that this city could have basketball fans as well as hockey fans, and to say otherwise is a ridiculous assertion that was only brought up so Bill could have a laugh as a Bruins fan. Vince was not treated like a franchise player? Get the fuck out of here with that shit. It mattered that Jonas won summer league MVP? No idiot, it obviously did not, but his improvement over the course of the past year maybe was worth mentioning. Rudy shot poorly due to double teams and his eyes were fine? That's garbage. Look at the shot chart and see that the easiest three pointers were missed entirely, and that is also the spot on the floor where depth perception comes into play the most. And it's not like he was lighting it up when he was with the grizzlies or when he took wide open shots here such as when he played in LA. Masai gets labelled as a GM/warlord? I find that more than a little offensive if his African roots are being referred to in that sense.

There really was very little accurate here! nor was there any attempt to be accurate. It was a shoddy bit of trashing a franchise that has largely bee trash. So to the extent that it disrespected a team that has done nothing to deserve any respect, it was accurate. Otherwise, not so much.

The problem is none of this ever gets said. And you have media morons going off on this and nothing ever gets corrected or clarified. I've never seen a team in my life get this type of treatment, anywhere. It gets it from the media here, never mind American media outlets. I'm assuming that when the organization meets with free agents they clarify it but still. After almost 20yrs there are still questions and confusion on taxes?
