Default Where D'oth I Hang My Hat,

I know I haven't posted much in a while...some of that is due to a change in work, and some due to a complete lack of interest in this team.
My Love for the Raptors and basketball has not changed, I am however finding it hard to relate to this team more than any other incarnation. I am not sure why.

In the early years, there was the excitement of just having a team, followed by the VC era, then a time of transition followed by the excitement of a Atlantic division championship . While none of those teams were overly successful, I always found something to hang my hat on. Names like, Morris Peterson, Jalen Rose, Doug Christie, Keon Clark and to some extent Mike James immediately pop into my head. Outside of Mo, none of them wholesale Raptor names, some of them down right bad at times but each had something about them I was drawn too, and interested in.

I can''t seem to find it this year, I don't know where it is, but I have been searching, I thought maybe it would be "the silent assassin", Andrea Barginani, and while I remain one of his biggest supporters, I no longer check the box score for his numbers if I miss a game. Perhaps the hard working Antoine Wright? I thought initially he would give me memorable flashbacks of Mo, but alas, I have nothing but a casual lack of disdain for him. The "enigmatic" Sonny Weems, jacking up shots like Mike James after to much Kool-Aid, meh.....Mike James "could" take over a game .

Do I find it in our fearless leader Chris Bosh...not even close, to compare him to VC, is a great disservice to the high point of VC's career here. CB4 talks of "putting up and shutting up", only to be followed up by not putting up or shutting up. I know I will find it in our great off-season signing...HEDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....MR.4th Quarter....surely he will bring me the heart attack that Jalen did the 4th....Ummmmm me thinks, Jalen would mind fuck him today on the court.

I know....I know....THE ROOKIE!!!!! Demar....DD....Kid Dynamite....The Next One....well gee it would be nice if he played a little....

Reggie Evans has managed to actually be less fit than JYD

JJ nor Calde, has shown the heart and consistent play of Alvin, and don't even get me started on their D, Alvin is still better than them.

Belli couldn't hold Dell Curry's jock....

Amir shows flashes of Keon...but nothing as nasty..

So help me Raptor faithful, as a long time Raptor fan "where doth I hang my hat"?

Right now?

Hang it on the fact that we have a team.

Great insight Benzo. I have had the same feeling but couldnt put a finger on it.

Tracy Murray 1 was the first for me followed by Doug Christie. Pre-Lenny VC was a sight to behold. And later it pre-dreds CB4.

I really want to cheer for DD. At the meet and greets he has been above generous. I still have hope.

Sigh. Alas I also wait for a Raptor to steal my heart.

Ya man.... this team has been good at making me not really care. Your post sums up my feelings pretty well.

There is just SOOOO much to be desired right now that it leaves me rather empty when it comes to supporting the team.

In another post someone said that Toronto doesn't deserve Chris Bosh. I feel so much the opposite. Toronto, the Raptors and all of us deserve so much more than we're getting right now.

These last few weeks have really taken the wind out of my sails. ...Although I'm still a big Jose fan, but it's kind of hard to see how badly he's fallen from just a few years ago.

For me it's about holding our breath this year and exhaling after Bosh makes his decision. If he stays it's time to really get serious and build a contender around him. If he goes the perhaps you make DD the focal point. As for things to value, I like DD, Weems, Amir and Jack in terms of young talent that plays with heart and hustle. I think Belli, Wright, Jose and the others need to go and I really think we need a veteran, hard-nosed coach with a completely new staff. Look what Skiles has done with the Bucks or look at the Bobcats. Those teams have taken on the identity of their coaches and play with purpose, effort and heart. That's all i want from our team. It's a sad day when you long for the Mitchell coached team with Bonner and James on it, or even worse O'Neill's raptors. At least those guys played hard every night and left what little they had on the floor.

i don't remember that at all. sure, sometimes they did, but sam's team was also quite likely to lay an egg as well. this was his constant problem - getting the same guys to step up all the time. this has been a franchise-wide problem for a lot longer than triano has been at the helm.

As I recall, their eggs were more from lack of talent than effort(Jalen Rose and of course Vince Carter excepted)...but then i am old and could be mistaken

depends how far you want to go back, i guess. sure, we had some warriors in those older days. ad, oak, alvin. but that goes back a ways, and we had some of the most lazy raps of all time too - keon clark, lamond murray, yogi, loren woods, rafer alston...

but think about the team that fired sam - it was pretty much the same type of lazy-asses we have this year, no? jamario, kapono, joey g, will solomon, jo, even ap, who despite his talents didn't exactly leave everything on the floor every night.

we've always had seriously lazy dudes on the team. the only exception would be the atlantic division champs year where people bought in to the team concept and played exceptionally well. even the first couple of playoff appearances had some weak links, we just happened to have an emerging superstar or two as well to balance things out.

ya benzo i couldnt agree more. this team hasn't done anything to get me excited either. I think the most exciting teams had to be the 2006/07 team and the 2000/01 and 2001/02 teams. Those teams were able to put together games exciting enough to make you cream your pants. with the way they ran the floor, and pumped the crowd up with their big scoring runs and clutch three pointers during games.

This years team doesn't possess the consistency to do that. even though we have won alot of games at home this year, alot of those wins either resulted in them letting the other team back into the game or they are the grind out wins where both them and the opponent shoot horrible and they win by being the team that is "less shitty" rather than the "dominate" team. I hope that made sense lol.

The only way they are going to make the playoffs this year is if another team "outshits" them (which is basically gonna be Chicago). they face some tough teams down the stretch (atlanta, cleveland, boston, okc) and will find it difficult to string together wins.

Great post.

I really haven't cared all that much either. I am too still a raptor fan but I think the whole Euro Experiment just blew up in the Raptors faces. This team needs a Ganster. PLEASE anyone from the Nuggets will do the softness on this team is really making me not care at all.

I actually really like just about every guy on this team, as much if not more than any other group of Raptors. But then it comes to nothing. The results have to be what matters, and outside of a third of each game which turns out to be terrific, the results are lacking.

Still - this season has been better than last season by a mile, and had things gone a little smoother, they could have made a big jump. I only hope now that the little jump they do make will not just mean that they end up being more or less a developmental team for the real teams in this league. Because if that happens I don't see myself being all that happy that there is a team here.
