Default Where Do You Stand?

My observation is that this place is split on the deal but I could be wrong. I want to get a better feel for what this forum thinks about the deal now that it's official.

Love, like, don't like, hate, not sure yet.

I don't even need a reason, but if you want to support your position ill certainly listen.

I'll start - don't like.

I'll say it is a good starting point. We have to make more moves, add a back up PG, trade away some of our wings and definitely trade away Bargs. THis is just wishful thinking but hopefully by the start of next year we can have a good team going forward

I feel like this could be the beginning of something great, but there's still much work to be done. I'll be happy when we shore up some holes and dispense with a couple of redundant wings.

For that reason, I have to say that I am presently undecided.

We weren't going anywhere anytime soon and with the city's inability to ever sign bigger name players, this trade was worth the risk
if its a success then the team should be able to take a giant step into the playoffs in the near future
if its a failure then its not going to be that far from what it is right now and maybe a good failure can start a successful rebuild

Kenny Smith said that if we started the season with this lineup we're the 5th seed in the East right now. He also said that Bryan was the only GM in this trade who traded for talent instead of money and how GM's these days are so concerned with saving money as opposed to winning. The panel, Smitch included said this improved us quite a bit.

Oh and Mitchell gave Toronto some love by saying the stigma about playing in Toronto is ridiculous.

Oh you got it wrong this is worse. Much worse. We have 0 trade assets, 0. When Gay ends up stinking the joint and Lowry leaves next year we will have nothing to trade for.

Not to mention we're not bad enough to get a decent pick nor good enough to actually be a playoff threat.

BTW what are Rudy gay's numbers in the playoffs?

Or even Regular season? Not much better than our 10 million dollar man. In fact he is shooting worse.

Oh and Colangelo? He'll be extended for another 4 years after this bull.

Justt because we can't sign big name players mean we should trade away all our assets and gamble on a player who had=sn't amounted to anything for 7 years in his career.

He's also getting paid franchise money BTW.

We traded ONE asset. That asset btw, if traded 6 months ago wouldn't have garnered many tears around here. Calderon was never going to be here next season. This fanbases amazes me. We cried that we had to get something for Calderon, we get Rudy Gay (never thought that would happen) and people can't help but whine. Let me guess you wanted to do something with capspace in a couple years or tank for wiggins?

we traded 2 bench players for a starter. The team has other young assets in Ross, Val, DeRozan.

all in all, I like the trade, would have preferred arthur, but it appears colangelo is working on other trades, so he may have needed the money. We got the best player in the deal, we massively upgrade our biggest weakness and basically turn an expiring and a #13 pick into gay.

I couldn't care less about the money he makes, he's overpaid, but I'm not the one paying his salary. If he made 13 instead of 19, we'd still be over the cap.

Also, to write off gay for 2 months of poor play is pretty dumb, he's one of the better SFs and has a solid track record behind him. Just like Bosh in Miami, Gay had to sacrifice for the team, their starting lineup is loaded. I bet the same people who hate the Gay thread would have loved it if we got Bosh instead of Gay ...

I wanted to build around an Ed and Valanciunas frontcourt.
Let things play out in this & next years draft. End up with good talent most likely next year.
Start/Trade Lowry
Start Ross and DD on the wings.

No one is going to come in here & improve this team by trade. Certainly not the below average Rudy Gay, with his 14.4 PER.

Please tell me what aspects of the game is Rudy Gay good in?

Passing? Rebounding? Defense? Shooting? Especially with his career abysmal percentages?

Scoring? on what? 17 points on 16 shots a game?

We really acquired a great player here.

Boo fucking me.

If this is a stand-alone move then I'm not a fan.... if it's part of a major revamp and we get another solid player (preferably a legit big) while shipping Bargs and maybe one of our wings out then I could get into it.

Rudy Gay is a bench player too. A bench player getting fed minutes out of necessity.

Well, we all know how basketball fans are. Forget the track record, it's all about what the player is doing now.

yeah, that's what I don't get, 3 months ago everybody would have been ecstatic about this trade, and now, because gay has 2 bad months, he's suddenly persona non grata ...

I hate losing ed, but I doubt he'll ever be as good as gay and he's most definitely nowhere near gay now.

Plus, PFs are a dime a dozen these days, it's very easy to find them. Good SFs are a much rarer commodity.

amir is 25, only a couple years older or so, and he's a better player than Ed in every aspect except maybe rebounding.
