Default Where Do People See The Raptors?

Right now, it's painfully clear to anyone that the Raps are not a contender. Many people on the team are struggling and our coach makes questionable decisions every game. We didn't pick anyone up to improve at the deadline either.

This franchise is now 15 years old. The most we've seen is a second round appearance. This is fact. A lot of people are skeptical about us getting past the first round this year too.

Bosh, our franchise player, has, if I'm not mistaken, said that he wants to play in a championship caliber team while being the main guy. Right now our team does not look like a championship caliber team.

Now I ask you, how long do you feel we need to become contenders? A good shot at the title? Who do we need to pick up to make this happen? What moves need to be done? Who needs to be fired, waived, etc.?

I'm just curious what everyone thinks needs to be done so we can start making progress and besting our 47-35 record, playoff appearance, etc.

Thoughts? I'm not knowledgeable enough so I won't have any input.

The question is how are we going to bounce back from this adversity and finish the season

team isnt going to become a championship team unless Bargs/Demar/etc improve and we get some serious steals in regards to MLE signings.

HEdo is on his way down in terms of talent and behind him the wings really suck.

Team is in either a wait and see what happens in 2 years mode, or timme to restart and trade people mode.

Of course we're not championship calibre...we are less than a season removed from 33 wins and turned over 9 players in the offseason. Assuming we recover from the recent slump, get healthy and keep the 5th spot, make the playoffs and go down fighting, even in the first round you really have to consider this season a success IMO.

I would say 5-8, especially considering we're currently in 5th and will get Bosh back as soon as our next game.

It's amazing what a week will do to you guys. Wow.

And jeff, I noticed you put "chemistry" in it quotations. Good job. It was actually you (I believe Friday of last week) who said that not making a trade was actually good because you too saw the value of team chemistry.

Fact of the matter is, right now, we're without our best player who opens up a lot of things for us. And really, he's the guy who'll lead us into respectability. I don't understand how for some of you guys, it's such a hard concept to understand.

I always saw the value of team Chemistry, but i wanted a trade at the deadline because i don't think we're good enough to win a round in the playoffs. And i believe our Chemistry would have been fine if BC could have made an upgrade in talent somwhere on the roster. Obviously there wasn't a viable option. So this team is what we have. And i just said in another thread that we'll be fine once Bosh gets back. But the playoffs are a different story.

Considering where we are in our development as a team, adding a major piece would set us right back. We're not the spurs where a core of the team and even the role players are all on sync. We added 9 new faces this season and finally starting gelling. We don't have an established ethic/chemistry with this team.

Therefore, while adding an 'upgrade' would be useful for either PR or even clinching a first round birth, there is no guarantee that it wouldn't have blown up in our face. For an example at the fragility of chemistry see the Washington squad coming into this year. Adding Foye/Miller and even Arenas was terrible as last year they understood how to run an offence through Butler. This year they didn't know who to go through.

As for the playoffs, we match up with half court set teams very well where we're not concerned about teams that like to play quick, up and down styles with a ton of athleticism (Atlanta, Philadelphia). We play much better against Cleveland because they play a pretty similar style to ours. So yeah, it depends on the match up right now. And in the playoffs, anything can happen.

My view of the team, which means nothing, is that the league is dominated by guard play and we fall very short in that department. DeRozan is two years away from being dependable but good starter, Belinelli will continue to grow into a scoring option off the bench, Wright gets too much credit because our other perimeter options are so bad on defence, and we have way too much money invested at pg with minimal defence provided.

Positively, I see this group as a team that can contend in the next two - three years if a solid two-way SG can fill the time gap for us and we realize that very few teams need 48 mins of above average pg play when good teams have 35 mins of great pg play. Banks is a good enough backup, pick your starter and move the other.

And we need a little more swagger, which may come in time, because I see other teams feeding the hot hand all the time whether it is a stud or not... toughness has somewhat been helped by Evans, now we need that random guy to go off any given night to bury a team... I think we still get too predictable down the stretch and too many guys try to take it on their shoulders when they aren't feeling it...

We are a playoff bound team. We MIGHT make it to the second round depending on matchups and how healthy we are but that's about it. We need to add a couple of guys and prolly be over the Lux Tax to be a Championship team at this point

I see where you're coming from, but with Hedo being 30, Bosh in his 7th season (next season being his 8th), Bargs in his 4th season (going into his 5th next season) , and Jose being 29 you have to think that the time is next season to start looking at seriously competing for the top 2-3 positions in the East, especially with Boston starting to fall. A real decision has to be made on what timetable are we looking at with Derozan, will it be another 3 years before he can be a full fledged starter on a contender, can he be counted on to really upgrade his game going into next season or do we have to upgrade the starting 2 spot with a serious defending/slashing SG? Is MLSE willing to go over the tax?
