What's your expectation of AP?

Let's talk about one of the least talked-about Raptors now.

Obviously he's getting old, and has already shown signs of regression.
So what's your expectations for him this year?
Is it safe to say that he'll remain a half-decent SG in this league?
How much regression do 33-year-old shooting guards usually show anyway?

Personally, I expect him to do what he did the last two years. I don't think he will regress that much. He's a pretty good shooter, and will keep defense honest now that we have both JO and Bosh.

EazyBalla 07-09-2008 09:04 PM

I think I would be happy if he plays the perimeter defence we need and actually mixes his game with a bit more slashing and driving to the hoop.

jeffb 07-09-2008 09:19 PM

12PPG/4RPG and good defence. I don't really see him regressing much if at all.

Major 07-09-2008 09:22 PM

I don't know if I really worried to much about numbers right now. Because right now he's probably one of the better perimeter defenders on our team, no?

Oh and how much longer until he's a FA guys??

LX 07-09-2008 09:25 PM

Defensively, he is one of those guys who tried to provide a little too much help inside. He can stick to the perimeter now. That should help a lot. And I hope he will not have to carry as much of a load offensively either. He could be a good guy in the crunch if he didn't wear down through games, and be counted on to do so much.

Major 07-09-2008 09:50 PM

He is the Bowen of our team, consistent even when old as hell

Ball Don't Lie 07-09-2008 09:55 PM

9 ppg, 45% Fg, 41% 3PT, solid defence. He'll be a solid glue guy as always, but his defence should look a lot better

When did 33 become old as hell?:suspicious:

Kirby 07-09-2008 10:03 PM

9PPG? More along the lines of 12. Same as before is what I predict.

The MVP of West Hollywood 07-09-2008 10:05 PM

Offensively, he'll start slow, heat up and put 19-20ppg for a few months, then cool down again

Well I was talking more in the lines of Bowen being "old as hell" which is a figure of speech, btw ;)

Oh and sweet pic :haha:

Isn't that a little too much? :confused2:

Yeah I was gonna say. I hope you're kiddin there MVP. AP's never even hit 13 ppg in his career yet. What makes you think he's gonna do it at 33??

The MVP of West Hollywood 07-09-2008 11:52 PM

That's exactly what he did the last two years. Last year he started out real slow and looked like he lost a step, then he was our sole light during Bosh's injury/the Me J period putting up like 19-20ppg through that stretch and carrying the offensive load like Rasho did in the closing stretch of the season, then he died down again. His average was 12 but he was putting up 19+ for a month or so (two might've been stretching it)

Two seasons ago I think he did the same thing, he heated up in the second half of the year

jumplvlan23 07-10-2008 12:00 AM

I want AP to play the role Bowen does for the Spurs.
Can knock down the open Jimmy, but more importantly.. play tough defense.

rapsfan087 07-10-2008 08:54 AM

Didn't know that AP practiced MMA ...

Major 07-10-2008 08:58 AM

I expect basically the same production from AP. His game is not based on athleticism so I doubt it fades away, if at all.

My only concern is that Smitch will wear him down by playing him for 40 MPG because of our weak wing rotation, and he will be worn down by playoff time. If we can keep him at 32 MPG and have Kapono and Moon each playing maybe 28, with Ukic and Hassan taking the scraps then I think we'll be fine.

INSIDER 07-10-2008 09:56 AM

ahhh, good 'ol reliable AP.
you always know what he'll give you and he never dissapoints.
AP will give us another season of 10-12 ppg, good veteran leadership, and clutch shooting.
this season he has the ability to score a bit more due to the fact that he'll be open a heck of a lot more behind the arc and will get alot more kickouts for open looks.
he'll probably also get more minutes with our lack of wings.
AP is the perfect compliment player.
i see him having another productive and consistant season... AP is the anti Mo pete.

Gurk 07-10-2008 01:43 PM

Ap is one of the most consistent guys on the raps
he is going to average about 11-12 ppg just like the first two seasons

Major 07-10-2008 03:59 PM

I just want him to start hitting free throws during crunch time. I always cringe when he shoots FT's in the critical part of the game. You're lucky if they go in because it's 90% guaranteed he'll miss one or both.

He should be getting a lot more open 3s when the double comes for either CB4 or JO so as long as he can hit the corner 3 like we know he's capable of he should be good.

I agree with the expectations that he'll pretty much be the same player, stat-wise, next season.
