Default What's our expectations?

Nobody's really brought this up. But, seeing how I think we have a core group here who follow the game very, very closely, what are our expectations individually of this team. We know we've made changes, but where do we see this team? From the predicitions thread some see them as in the ECF or the EC finalist. Is this fair? On a sidenote, what do you think the expecations are for the "average" fan and for the media?

expectations for the average fan is exactly what the media is feeding them, 6 to 8th seed.

and the media gets there predictions from whoever makes them first in the media

EC finals, but there's always a chance that they're a total bust - like a whole lot of teams in the league right now.

I think we can push the Celtics to six games in the ECF.

I strongly believe that we have a better team this year. We will be in a dog fight for positioning going into the playoffs. Boston ran away from the rest in the east last year but it won't be as easy for them this year. They have the talent however this year you will see their age show.

If you take a look at the 8 spot last year in the east you find Atlanta. Now if you take a look at the teams that were fighting it out for that 8 th spot you will find the following teams were 5 or less games from making it in the playoffs. That brings Indy,New Jersey,Chicago and Charlotte into the picture.

So how does this effect the Raptors, well the way I look at it the East will be stronger and more competitive this year. I see Boston and Detroit not as dominant. This will make for a very competitive year in the east.

The Raptors will be in the thick of things and I strongly believe we will have only 10 games separating the top team from the 8th place team. This will be a big improvement from the 29 games Atlanta finished behind Boston.

With the addition of JO, the improvement of Bargs, and with Caldy playing more the Raptors will be in the thick of things and I say they finish 5 games out of first place in the east, however I am not really sure which spot that would be but we will find ourselves making it to the conferance finals.

If what I've seen vs. NY is any indication - lower expectations are in order. Anything worse than getting out of the 1st round will be and should be viewed as a disappointment, though.

I say 2nd round to be optimistic, but honestly, we can have the best season in franchise history and still end up 5th or 6th seed playing on the road and expectedly losing against Cleveland or Orlando/Philly in the 1st round. The top 6 in the East will be no joke this year.

I really would love to say ECF but I don't think that is entirely realistic. All the
"ifs" surrounding this season have been done to death so I won't go through them. If EVERYTHING that could go well goes perfectly I suppose it could happen. I'd say my expectations would be 2nd in the division, hopefully 3-4 in the conference and a competitive 2nd round loss in 6 or 7 games.

Loss in the 2nd round. I dont think we can hang with Lebron for 7 games, nor with Boston, and nor with Detriot.

I expect at least a second round appearance - and one in which they serve notice that they are a team to watch in the coming years.

There's also a chance Philly will be a bust with Brand considering he played 8 games last season, but hey that's just me.
If people are kissing Philly's ass without taking the bust factor into consideration then I'm doing the same for the Raps. 08-09 FINALS BABY!

we can get to ecf as long as we don't bump into boston along the way. It's impossible for us to beat Boston, as their frontcourt is just as impressive, and clearly dominate us in the backcourt ... not to mention their defensive strength.
