Yes I still like Ed Davis a lot. Not going to give up on a player with upside at 21yrs old when he had a solid rookie season.

Quote:
“Bryan [Colangelo] is a very innovative guy, and Ed Stefanski,” Raptors coach Dwane Casey said of the Raptors’ president and general manager, and executive vice-president, respectively. “They’re always looking to improve our team. I know we’re not going to do anything to [alter] our cap flexibility next year or to destroy our core, because I like our core. Next year is a different story. We’re going to evaluate the guys that we’ve got now and see where they are.”

Colangelo, who said he is being “extra diligent” in sticking with this team’s plan to “change the culture, develop the core [and] preserve maximum cap flexibility,” is an aggressive general manager. Before the season, he said that the patient approach these Raptors require sometimes gets to him. At heart, he is a dealmaker.
Quote:
However, unless something unforeseen comes along, it is tough to envision Colangelo declaring this the time to change the face of the Raptors.

“If we were in a position to obtain a key piece for the future, it would certainly cause deliberation,” Colangelo said via email. “But remaining cap neutral or creating more space in our dealings is one of our key objectives.”

“There is nothing going on with trades today,” Casey added. “There are a lot of calls back and forth right now, but there is no real thing going on with trades. I didn’t even bring it up to our players because there’s nothing going on. There’s nothing to really talk about.”

I would try to swing a deal for Jose. Not that I don't like him or anything, it's just that I believe that would help the team the most in the long run.

His trade value is sky-high right now, and we can get the most return for him right now. It's kind of funny that many people were calling for his head before the start of this season through the amnesty clause, but some are reluctant to let him go right now.

Also, trading him will probably ensure a high draft pick. I don't cheer for the team to lose or anything, but the worst thing for the Raptors this season is to stay outside of a top 10 pick. Instead, we can focus of gathering more talent to have a even more successful season next year.

At the same time we can give Jerryd Bayless a good evaluation. He has proven to put of good numbers as a starter; let's see if he can repeat the same. I am not looking for him to be the long-term solution, but it's worth evaluating his true potential.

I still think they should amnesty him this summer if a good deal for him can't be had. I'm starting to think a draft night deal will be made by BC. Just a gut feeling.

Amnestying him would be a waste imo. At this point, he can bring at least 1 legitimate prospect and a late first rounder.

A draft night deal is certainly possible, but it is also a risk. It's under assumption that Calderon will continue this run and stay healthy.

Meh, an extra 10Mil under the cap is far from a waste imo. Like I said I would do it IF A GOOD DEAL COULD'T BE DONE. If we get offers that brings back as much salary and isn't much of an upgrade....amnesty.

1. Get rid of Jose Calderon while his stock is high. Whatever you get now will be the most you could ever get for him moving forward. I'd aim for Mike Conley Jr or Brandon Jennings in a packaged deal amongst other young point guards. Heck I'd even take Raymond Felton's expiring contract.

2. Make a play for Josh Smith. He's they type of Small Forward we could use. We don't need him but he's good so if we could acquire him go for it.

Amnestying a guy playing as well as he is and going to be an expiring next year is foolish.... Amnestying Amir makes much more sense with Davis being a near clone, JV coming over, Greypower looking very serviceable and cheap, and with JJ and LK both able to provide minutes at the 4. I've just convinced myself, either trade Amir for a pick or amnesty him.

Absolutely. Amir is much more disposable when we have ED behind him while Jose has shown that he can be a quality PG and it seems to be much harder finding a starting-caliber PG than a backup PF.

ED will be dealt before Amir will be. Why? He is more valuable and is capable of being a 10 ppg, 10 rpg, 2 bpg starter (at PF) in the nba. Also, he is younger than Amir and has a friendlier (because it's a rookie scale) contract. Also, ED needs to get all the playing time he can handle while starting.

Bayless should be dealt. I have more interest in several PG's in the draft.

You deal whichever is sought after.... it may be Amir for contract matching purposes or other various reasons, or it may be Ed for value or what have you.... there are many reasons, for us and for interested teams, that either could be dealt. It's all about getting the right value back for either.

Exactly, and ED's value is higher, therefore he will fetch more value than Amir would in a deal.

he may fetch more value, but that doesn't mean he gets dealt. Other teams may not want to pay the price difference, or may want to swap salary too.
