What would the Raptors be like if we didn't trade for Rudy Gay?

I'm usually not a big fan of these kind of threads, but the off season is too damn boring so, what the hell..
Assuming BC is fired regardless and our GM is MU, but the trade for Rudy Gay didn't happen. What do you think would we be doing now? What would our team look like?
(Just for the record I'm happy that the trade did happen!)

I doubt that MU would try to resign Jose, and he would deal Bargs regardless. So we would have tons of cap space and shitty team. Knowing how good 2014 draft is I would assume that MU wouldn't go crazy in the FA or trades.

Yeah, the tank would be a lot easier. Lowry would be traded by now (probably at the draft), Jose walks, Eddy's still here making a big man rotation of Amir, Jonas and Ed something exciting to watch. We'd have a 2nd round pick signed as well. Could have been Peyton Siva or Erick Green if we wanted a PG.

Maybe we coulda got Atlantas picks for Lowry? I think we'd resign Jose to a short small contract. Smaller than his with Dallas for sure.

Jose/Schroeder/Buycks
DeMar/Ross
Fields/Novak/Daye
Davis/Amir/Hansbrough
Val/Nogueira/Gray

The tank is strong in that group.

While making this I realized how good a fit Ed was with JV

You dont get both Schroeder and Noguiera for Lowry. They're 2 first-rounders.

It's the Lowry trade that sent us into mediocrity... we wouldn't have been so panicked about giving up a lottery pick, then trading for Gay simply gave us a better player to put with a team that still lacked supporting talent, keeping us outside of the playoff picture. Maybe we have to dump Gay to Detroit just to fix it all again if we start poorly out of the gate. If we come out early playing .500 ball, we're in trouble, we'll need much better than that as a start.

I disagree there. We have a better player in Lowry then we would have gotten at #13 in this draft and he doesn't make much. I know you don't like Lowry but give me a break.

9th was dealt for 14 and 21. (Essentially) 12 for 16 and 17 shouldn't be that far off.

it wouldn't have been the 13th pick if we didn't make that trade... otherwise Lowry sure wasn't worth it with your logic.

12th, but what he's saying isn't really too off base. The Lowry deal really got the wheels rolling on the BC train of fuck shit up. He gave a guaranteed lotto pick for Lowry, showing he was going for playoffs despite our rosters inability to make the playoffs. It's not so much that the Lowry deal was bad, but the direction it took us in. Hell, if you're dealing a lottery pick, at least do it in a big trade. If we could have gotten Harden for DeMar, Ross, and that pick (similar to Houston's package) we'd be so much better off.

i think MU would have drafted Antetokunmpo(MU was very high on him) and Shroder. Stash them in Europe for a year or two and tank.
