What would Jose get as a FA?

Calderon is a FA next summer, whether we re-sign him or not what do you think he would fetch? Keeping in mind that if he goes to a contender he'll be a backup in all likelyhood.

My guess is about 3yrs/18Mil

Valid question, no? Since he's a FA after the season.

Which hasn't even started yet.

Valid enough, but there is a definite obsessive/compulsive nature showing through.

If I see a poll on Jose's hair replacement options tomorrow morning I'll be certain that you may need help.

I wouldn't bother.... get more creative... be all you can be!

Jose is going to get somewhere in the 3 for 12 market.

Jose is capable of playing for both starter and backup PG. If we can keep Jose for $5/yr around, it would be great. Only concern is, if Jose plays well this season, other teams will bid higher to take Jose away from our roster.

Jose is the best backup PG in the NBA and a spot starter at this point IMO. He's in the 4-6 million range. I'd say his next deal is 3 years 15 million.

6 would be the low end.

6-7.5, maybe 8 depending on the team.

as you said, best backup, and a more than capable starter. I can see teams giving him something in that range for 3 or so years

no backup PG makes 8mil, unless they've been signed as a starter initially. No way he gets 8mil unless someone signs him as their starter. And even then.

Superjudge 10-10-2012 01:41 PM

it all depends upon this season. If he plays well, maybe 6 for two years, 4 for 3 years.

Most of the NBA teams now have an established starter better than Jose at the position, or have a young player being groomed to be the starter where they wouldnt sign an aging vet to take his spot. Theres no way he gets over 6 million, as there arent enough starting positions available league wide and no one is going to sign him for that much to be a backup as Jeff said

Metallikid 10-10-2012 03:55 PM

3/15 sounds about right. He's a known quantity in the NBA and plenty of teams would be happy to have him - especially the ones with deep pockets. The only concerning fact is that Thriller is right, almost every team in the NBA either has a better starter, someone they're giving the keys to be the future PG, just traded for a borderline starting guard or are in our division. The only teams left that are plausible to me, at least before the season starts, are Sacramento, Orlando, New Orleans, Minnesota (maybe with Rubio out a while) or Detroit. And I don't know what we would want or they would be willing to trade for him. I would not do it for a second rounder even if it meant keeping him the whole season and risk losing him for nothing. Even our of those five teams the only players I would want and could conceivably get in a near swap would be Aaron Brooks, Arron Afflalo or Rodney Stuckey.

Long story short, Jose's going to be here forever. :cookie:

4-5 million is probably the price of an average player in the league and he is way more valuable than an average player especially as a PG, so he's got to be at least 6-7 million

That's where I would peg it.

WAY more valuable than an average player? Really? How so exactly? He's a liability defensively, doesn't score much. He's got skills as a passer and is a great locker room guy but i fail to see how he is way more valuable than an average player since he's never won, never been an all-star and has at times lost his starting position to someone else. He IS average to slightly above average imo. I guess i should ask what your defenition of average is?

We must be bipolar ....one day we cant wait to rid of calderon and the next day it seems that he should be making a good change as a FA for the next 3 years.
I know we are off topic here.....but we should have kept our draft pick and not traded for Lowry. Caldy and Lucas could have worked.......we should have drafted Drummoud and traded Val for it, Would of could of ?????????? Trade Davis for a draft pick ???? BC making some bad choices here !

Superjudge 10-11-2012 02:53 PM

funny I love Calderon more than most here yet my prediction of his next salary is by far the lowest... heh. Funny that. Think about it a bit.

there's so many things wrong with this post I don't know where to begin. hell, I think it's blatent to everyone but you so i'm not even going to call them out. I'm a caldy fan, and think he is an above average player. you and jeff are extremes. caldy is a good player, above average (unlike jeff says) but he's no god like you put it. goddamn it!
