Meh, i've admited he's good and last night made me remember he was once one of my favorite players (until a couple years ago). But he's essentially average, nothing necessarily wrong with that but that's how i see him. He's a tease and his assist stats imo are nice but misleading because of the way he plays. If Calderon was the backup here behind Lowry even after this season with occasions where he starts (injuries) and played 20mpg while accepting that i'd be happy with that. But i've grown extremely tired of PG controversy talk from the media and Jose Fanboys, yet continuing to lose. I've grown tired of the whole thing to be honest. I think a parting of ways needs to happen for both sides.

calderon as a backup to a guy like lowy is a great thing to have. I agree with that. Calderon would be the best back up pg in the nba, sometimes you need someone to calm the team down, caldy's that dude. he would do for us what heinrich did for the bulls, and I always love heinrich, so i'd love it if caldy stayed and retired as a raptor, in the role you just spelled out. raptor 123 is just too extreme, as is, imo, calling him merely "average"

Last night was funny because all Calderon did really was show Lucas how to get your's, AND keep your guys involved by running the effin offence. Basically, showed him how to be a pg.

Lowrey will start, i really hope he is a distributor too.

Average, slightly above average......we're splitting hairs here. Calling him average isn't the least bit extreme it's an opinion. His fans talk about him as if he's some parenial all-star or something. He's a good PG, not great and that's average or a little above average it's a matter of opinion. IMO he's in the bottom half of the 30 NBA starters (roughly middle of the league) which i think describes average. It's all subjective anyway.

pzabby you got one part right. Jeff is extreme .......i surely treat Calderon as a God.......I base my opinions on facts......

Many on here have worshipped many God 's.

I will name them TJ Ford,Jaret Jack, Jaret Bayless and now Kyle Lowry.3 of 4 mentioned have gone to hell......Klye Lowry is presently in pergotory awaiting a decision from the almighty God himself.....will Lowry join the others and go to hell or will he join Jose Calderon as the chosen one... Raptor eternity for life .

How much he is worth? 4-6mln per/yr contract, but knowing that he might wanna go to a team were he gets a chance to make to win a ring, he might play for much less.

Jose did look better in some respects. I would say he looked particularly better on defense. And he appeared to run the team better, although I'm not convinced he ran the sort of offense they have in mind (through no fault of his, since they are still installing their offensive plan).

But in any case, the gulf between the two pgs was not tremendous. Playing 2 more minutes than Jose, Lucas took three more shots than his counterpart, and had one more assist. I would suggest that the coach would like to see Jose shoot a little more, and Lucas to find other shooters a little more, and that both guys did work towards expanding their roles to some degree. And I would agree that to that extent Jose proved helpful to Lucas, but that Lucas might have offered a good example of how the pace can be pushed and bring about assertive early offense. If we go the Triano route and run the team into the ground without gaining many easy points in the process, then we're sunk. They need to find the right balance from what we've seen so far, and keep in mind that we haven't seen anything close to what the rotation will be. How both these guys look six weeks from now will be much more meaningful.

Did you see the 37pt we gave up in the 1st quarter? And he was blown by a couple times in the 4th qurater. He was his usual self on defense. He shot the lights out though.

Yeah - he didn't really run the team all that much in the first quarter either. But Lucas was just horrible on defense, constantly chasing guys. That helped Detroit get a good chunk of those 37 points. That has to change. Jose did a pretty decent job of staying in front of guys.

Mehhh, if lucas plays a significant role on this team this season we're fucked anyway because it'll mean injuries have occured. Lucas right now doesn't bother me. This season might be a different story if Lowry and/or Jose can't stay healthy.
