What We Could Have Been

I've been brushing up on my history, as I haven't I been a hardcore raps fan for too long, but I just noticed something.

If through some magical turn of events, we had won the 2004 draft lottery and drafted Dwight Howard, would we still have traded Vince? If not, would the emergence of the up-and-coming center motivate Vince to try harder? And if that happens, Does Vince reach his full potential(which many believe is MJ-like)? If that happens, I dont think we would have Bargs, but we would have a sophomore in Bosh. Do you think we win a championship with a core of Bosh, Dwight and Vince?

I know it's a lot of ifs, but one can't help but imagine what could have been.

pzabby 03-18-2012 07:46 PM

imagine if we had kept chauncey, mighty mouse, mcgrady (and he reached his full potential), vince (reached full potential). that would easily be a championship team. But there's nothing we can do so better to not fret on the past and look to the future!

Blazers fans must weep on a regular basis thinking about their what ifs.

Oden, Camby
Aldridge
Wallace, Batum
Roy, Crawford, Matthews
Felton

Don't forget Marcus Camby & also the fact we didn't get a chance to draft Kevin Durant because the one & done rule was instituted the year we land the number one pick.

I'm guessing many, many, many Blazer fans would pick Durant over Oden if they had the chance to redo that draft...

And you forgot Michael Jordan. :p

these threads are just depressing lol

Dont forget that AI was supposed to be a Raptor as well but Stern didnt want an expansion team with the 1st overall pick so we got booted to 2nd instead.

But imagine

AI/Stoudamire
VC/Rose
Tmac/Marion
Bosh/Oakley
Antonio Davis/Clark

Reserves:
Childs, Barbosa, Evans, Marshall, Parker, MoPete

That is like dream team right there

or Nash, Dirk for VC

JDMtors 03-18-2012 11:38 PM

If I also recall, before Nash signed with the Suns. He was looking to sign with Toronto as well regardless. But babcock opted to give that large contract to Alston instead who didnt pan out too well on his 2nd run with the team

So it could have been Nash/AI/Mighty Mouse. And we have a lot of trade assets too

ClutchCity 03-18-2012 11:40 PM

Okay, let's assume we drafted AI. How would we get VC/Tmac/Bosh/Davis? It's not like everything else would have stayed constant. We would've gotten lower picks most likely. Truth is, you can say this kind of stuff for any team...but really, what good comes out of it?

this makes so sense because
1) marion's salary coming off the books was what enabled us to sign hedo which in turn is what we used to get barbosa so there's no way we could have marion and barbosa on the team
2) there's no way stoudamire was still a good player when half of the rest of the roster was playing
3) the biggest flaw in this roster is that antonio davis was traded to the bulls for jalen rose and donyell marshall
4) the fact that you have like at least 4 max money players in that roster also makes so sense, unless you're dreaming that all those guys sign for less money because in that case the dream is so big you might as we dream that we got the #1 draft pick every year and we always picked the best player and they all signed for the league minimum

Acie 03-19-2012 12:54 AM

We should've sent Carter to Miami in 2003 for their 1st RD pick and drafted Bosh and Wade.

LOG 03-19-2012 01:03 AM

We cant think this way, it's impossible to know what is going to happen. All of the teams screwed up at some some point.

EggsToTheBBQ 03-19-2012 02:48 AM

I only really think about "what if" with regards to the McGrady situation.

If he had re-signed it would have been amazing to have two wing players like that on the same team.

Even if there were no championships the highlight reel would have been historic.

Two superstar wings can demand the ball only so many times. It could've gotten out of hand.

You forgot to add that Bron Bron would decide to come here and ride Wade's coattails :cookie:

We should have just drafted Wade.
