Should be the easiest win so far of the 7 game stretch but still cant take them likely.

Topic is: Rudy Gay - start or come off the bench?

Quote:
It's only a topic because some fail to look at or consider reality. You don't trade for Gay, who's a top 2-3 SF in the Western Conference, makes close to 18M and is arguably our most talented SF ever and at the least is right there in the Peja/Artest discussion as one of the top SF's we've ever had, then decide to bring him off the bench when most of our problems lie elsewhere.

The solution isn't to bring him off the bench. What we should do is feature him even more. He doesn't see the ball enough with our sticky-fingered PG. And FGA's aren't part of this. It's getting the ball in his spots, getting touches regularly and being a focal point and decision maker within the offense. Needs to see the ball more, needs to see it more often earlier in games and needs to run the two-man game with Cuz with a live dribble and space. Turning him into a more off the ball, spot up player or someone who just occasionally gets a post iso, often with poor spacing, then turning around and acting the player is more the problem when he's not being used correctly and suggest we should send him to the bench is asinine imo, although I'm not surprised as we've seen it before.

This isn't just a Rudy issue either. Both our SF's, DWill as well have had their roles/touches cut down recently as our PG remains more ball dominant than ever. And again, it's not FGA's, it's allowing Rudy to get the ball early in the shotclock with room and time to operate. Frankly, it doesn't happen nearly enough, then he starts chasing the game and forcing the issue, as would any 2nd option who's not involved enough.

If people disagree, go back and watch his top 2-3 games with us. Start with the Houston game. Look at where Rudy got his touches and how he was used. We're not using him that way anymore. The argument behind starting DWill is that he's a better role player who meshes better with Cuz, but also at the root of it is IT/Cuz would be the ball dominant players and DWill as a role player fits better playing off them. The whole premise is off. IT should not be the 2nd most ball dominant player on this squad nor should a guy like Rudy be reduced to playing off him. Gay/Cuz should be the ball dominant pairing and IT play off them. The idea we hand IT the ball instead of Gay, then send Gay to the bench so we have a more role player type SF to fit next to IT and Cuz is wrong on multiple levels. You don't send Gay to the bench to placate IT's ball dominance. That's backwards.

Quote:
There have been complaints Williams is not playing enough. There have been complaints McLemore is playing too much. We have all stars on the team yet we continue to lose. What are we trying to accomplish?

Quote:
Many posters may have already heard my opinion on start vs. bench, but to me it really does not matter. The important thing is PLAYING the guys that are getting it done. If RG is having a tough go I'd put Williams in early and stay with the guy that performs down the stretch, it's not rocket science. But sitting RG will probably only reduce confidence and disrupt team chemistry. Of course if the goal is to get Rudy to leave at the end of the season leaving 19 million on the table this might be a good start.
Quote:
Before I make my statement, I am going to premise this by saying it is still to early to tell how it is going to pan out.

The situation was obvious for Gay. He gets traded from a contender to a bottom-feeder. No chemistry and already had Derozen and then drafted Ross. If I was Gay I would do anything to get moved from that team. Now when this deal went down it was an obvious win for both teams. For the Raptors it was addition by subtraction. It opened opportunity for Big Val to flourish and get more touches and also allowed Ross and Derozen to be the consistent 2 and 3. Now for this Kings this is a 100% increase in talent. Literally every piece we gave up, the counter to them is better. Granted we gave our starting point guard on top but he was getting beat out by IT so it doesn't hurt that bad.

Overall, I really think we are putting together a soon to be amazing roster.

Quote:
Just to add perspectice... his first two weeks in Toronto, Gay looked unstoppable. Shot over 50% and made game winning shots.

Then he came back to earth.

Sac may afford Rudy more easy fast break points, but that's about it.

If you feel Sac has more scoring options, therefore Rudy can chill - you're wrong. When Rudy came to Toronto, they had DeMar scoring 20 ppg, Bargnani right around there, and Amir and Lowry averaging in the teens.

This year... the bigs for Toronto have been scoring like mad since Rudy left because they couldn't get touches before. Demar would chuck cuz he knew he might not see the ball again.

If you think Rudy shooting the ball WAY more than Boogie or IT makes him a #2 or 3 option then you aren't looking at anything other than points scored.

This is Boogie's team - and he is going to snap as soon as he gets tired of not getting ball and watching Rudy's 3 sail wide.
Quote:
In the first 2 games in Sactown with Gay starting you had 12 and 17 assists. That;s 14.5 per game. Before Gay you were averaging 21. Small sample size but do you see him effecting your ball movement? He really hurt Toronto that way.
Quote:
Gay has looked good and hasn't been frustrating to watch IMO except this last game but he wasn't the only one frustrating to watch last game and I don't think Malone will tolerate that sort of play. If rudy continues to turn the ball over 7 times and not put forth an effort there's no doubt Malone will bench him, that's how he rolls.

Vasquez's floater was the best thing he had going for him so ya if that's off he is pretty much useless. I knew his defense was bad before he came to sac but it was worse than I thought. I seriously think he is the slowest and worst defender in the league. I think jimmer plays better D. I respect Vasquez for his passion.

Gray has been good at setting screens I think once JT is traded he might get more minutes, but acy has been a big surprise. I can see why he was a fan favorite in Toronto.

What is it with Rudy?
How could one be so talented and so useless at the same time?

IT/Boogie/Rudy should be such a solid core. Great read, though, thanks!

They offered a much worse package for Rondo than we're asking for Lowry

Knicks Hope Rajon Rondo Forces Trade

The New York Knicks are interested in acquiring Rajon Rondo from the Boston Celtics.

The Knicks hope that Rondo will eventually try to force a trade to the Knicks in a way that was similar to Carmelo Anthony in 2011, according to sources.

The Celtics have consistently denied wanting to trade Rondo, but he will have just one guaranteed season remaining on his contract after the deadline.

The Knicks fully expect to re-sign Anthony in the offseason and at the very least have enough cap space in 2015 to sign a max player.

"They're one confident bunch," a league executive said this week. "To listen to them, they expect to have Carmelo re-signed and have another star with him in another year. They're so sure about it you'd think they already know what will happen."

As crazy as it sounds this home and home vs the Raptors is big. If we win them both we'll be right there on top of our division.

If we play like they're OKC, we'll annihilate them.
If we play like they're NYK, we're dead beyond dead.

I agree man. It seems like many Knick fans don't care about the future and just want a good starting point guard now. If that trade was offered MU would take it and the Knicks would still suck for many more years to come.
