Re: Dumars and the Pistons

To make matters worse, they likely won't have a pick this summer in the deep draft. They sent a 1st rounder to Charlotte when they dumped Ben Gordon on the Bobcats, and it is only protected 1-8. Dumars has put together a team that is shitty enough to potentially miss the playoffs this year, but good enough that they might fall outside the pick's protected zone. They could have no playoff appearance or pick if they stay in their current position. Although the Bulls will probably drop back when they sell off another asset, the Knicks and Cavs are likely going to be buyers and make a push to move forward. There is a good chance of the Pistons finishing 9th-11th in conference with little to show for their season.

and, to make it double worse, they used the cap space gained from dumping gordon in signing Josh Smith to what is starting to look like an worse contract.

Truth is, Dumars has made way too many dumb moves. It's one thing to draft darko, but the contract he gave to gordon, cv and smith were not only pretty bad financially (last one wasn't too terrible on paper, just on fit), but everybody scratched their heads at the time of the signing, because the fit was never there. And his drafting is atrocious, the only good players he got were monroe and drummond and drummond was more or less a default pick. This new guy pope looks fairly good so far, but so did stuckey once upon a time ...

Not sure how anyone ever saw josh Smith's signing as being anything but a bad contract. just a terrible choice.

I haven't seen a single article/opinion contrary to that. Pretty much everybody has serious doubts that core will work. The only optimistic estimates were that they will either move monroe, or bring one of them off the bench. Which I expect to happen soon, probably drummond - this is clearly not working out for them and with the added pressure of toronto, nyk and the nets, they will fall out of the playoff picture in the next week or so - time to panic in other words.

I think it would make sense for them to try and trade for Afflalo (even if he is not SF). Monroe would not be enough, but future pick+sweetener might

He is a restricted free agent, so he can't go anywhere at the end of the season as we could just match any offer. I would love to get Greg Monroe on this team, but I would rather try to sign him and hope Detroit doesn't match rather than trading a few good pieces for him.

If we were to make a trade for him, I would entertain trading our 1st rounder this year, since it will be a late one and the few 2nd rounders we got in the Bargs deal along with Vasquez and Detroit's choice of Patterson or Psycho T (even though i would rather keep both, but if we have JV, Amir and Monroe there will not be enough playing time for those two).

Dumars more than likely wouldn't take that deal, but you never know. This is the same guy that signed Gordon, Charlie V, Jennings, Josh Smith and Rip Hamilton (last contract) all to horrible deals, so maybe he would take this horrible trade

I'm sure if Dumars could swing he'd over pay for Deng

I think he would too as the desperately need a starting SF. If it happens Dumars might just be stupid enough to let Monroe walk at the need of the season. If that happens I want to get Monroe on this team right away

the Blue Dawn guy is right about their arena. I can't count the number of times the opposing team got more cheers. Embarrassing.

Man, I'd hate to be Toronto. That team is directionless.
Don't know. But I don't think anybody could have expected the Raptors to be playing this well with or without Rudy Gay.

You can't build around Jonas...maybe one day he can be the 3rd best player on a championship team or something along those lines. But The Raptors desperately need to bottom out, which won't happen seeing their recent success. Truly a horrible position to be in...they need at least 2 high draft picks to ever make something out of their current core.

This Raptors squad is just your typical treadmill team.
