What team is the bigger mess? The Lakers or the Raptors?

I watched that game last night and they're just as discombobulated as we are. Ugh.

LX 12-12-2012 09:24 AM

Considering they have what is supposed to be a dream team, probably the Lakers. But since I saw that coming, and I also see them with the means of fixing their mess, I have to go with the Raptors, the team that is hopelessly stuck with the impossibly horrible status quo with the only real option of just getting even worse.

MBailey85 12-12-2012 09:29 AM

The Lakers have a whole bunch of new rotation players (Jamison,Howard,Nash,Meeks,Duhon) and adapting to a 3rd new offense (Brown's,Princeton,D'Antoni's) in the past 6 months,as well as a new coach. They'll get it togther eventually and make the playoffs. Their struggles are explainable/excusable and you can't really judge them until Nash returns to the line up for this team as D'Antoni with coach.

The Raptors are dispicable, have an on going problem that they can't solve and things are getting worse. They have assets that are under performing so its gonna be hard for them to recoup any type of decent value for them at the moment, the rookies are under achieving and they don't have their 1st pick most likely, for the upcoming draft. Toronto is in a tough spot, may have a lame duck GM,a coach who may have already lost his team after less than 100 games. This situation is really bad and far worse compared to the Lakers in my opinion.

fancylad 12-12-2012 09:37 AM

this really all depends on how you define 'mess'.

I'll say Raptors because the lakers mess is so much easier to fix and can be fixed so much faster.

Actually using the analogy of an actual mess: Lakers are like a kid's messy room and Raptors are like that kids room after the entire house has been destroyed by a hurricaine.

You can fix one, but you have to totally rebuild the other.

jeffb 12-12-2012 09:37 AM

Laker will be a playoff team this season. We're the 2nd worst team in the NBA with no star and no cappspace. :sigh:

LX 12-12-2012 09:40 AM

The Lakers problems are similar to the Raptors problems in that they are almost exclusively on the defensive end, but everyone wants to light themselves on fire over how the offense operates.

If the Lakers don't solve the problems on defense, they might very well not make the playoffs. If they do make it, they won't get far. I certainly don't see Nash helping with the defense.

ollyaaa 12-12-2012 09:47 AM

I know which roster I'd rather be working with....

FLO 12-12-2012 09:59 AM

The Raptors by far. The Lakers will work through their problems and go on a 10 game win streak. Us? LOL.

thought 12-12-2012 10:05 AM

You could say the lakers team is more of a mess given the gap between expected and actual results. but the raptors franchise is a mess...and that's much worse.

creative1mm 12-12-2012 10:52 AM

Lakers shouldn't even get a vote.. raptors are the biggest mess in the NBA this year.. clearly

MikeToronto 12-12-2012 11:09 AM

I'd say Lakers based on the expectations vs. current state of affairs.

SteveTT 12-12-2012 11:23 AM

My vote goes to the Lakers, since raptors where scheduled to miss the play-offs (and we are on pace with it) but the Lakers were praised as contender, and now (as we talk of it) they risk to miss the playoffs.

Don Vito 12-12-2012 11:28 AM

We're a bigger mess. Nobody should feel sorry for L.A ... they have too many star players & have been winning for a long time. Everything is a mess for the Raptors.

I can agree that the lakers could solve their problems with improved D, their offense is top 10 in the league in both shooting % and total points. The cRaptors, however, are near the bottom in both. In fact last 4 games their field goal percentage have been pretty bad: 35%, 39%, 40% and 40%. Just dismal, how can you expect to win with that? On the year the only Raptors regulars with decent shooting % are Derozan, Amir, Ed and JV. Jose's lighting it up from 3, but his overall % isn't great. Lowry dropping fast, at 40%, soon to be in the 30's if his shot selection doesn't improve. Every other rotation player has a shooting percentage in the 30's, excluding John Lucas' 27% and Landry Fields 21%. All you Alan Anderson fans realize he was shooting 31% before being injured right? Without a doubt one of the worst run offences in the league this year.

4 now.

They must work for MLSE/Rogers/Bell.

It's funny the Lakers have 4 players who if they were sent to the Raptors would immediately be our best player yet 4 posters think the Lakers are worse off. Oh well...

Please address the points of the posters who you disagree with instead of just using a statement like "they must work for MLSE etc." It does nothing to advance the conversation and instead just riles individuals up.

Thanks.

Raptors... and it's not even close TBH.

The Heat were maybe a game over .500 after 20 games and still finished the season going to the NBA finals.

The Lakers have every chance to do the same. No Pau right now and no Nash... and the lineup still isn't set 100%.

I can't see how things could get better for us barring a major trade. Bargs is what he is and even if Fields, Anderson and Lowry all come back to 100% I'm not convinced that this is a playoff team anymore (which makes me sad to say).

Something is "broken" with this Raps team and it needs to be addressed and FIXED before anything positive is going to happen.

woodchuck 12-12-2012 01:00 PM

I'd say Lakers, and not close.
If a team has Lowry and Bargnani as its best players, I'd expect it to win 30-40 games, if everything goes well. If it starts 4-18, it's sad, but it's not stunning.
Now, a team with Howard and Kobe starting 9-13 is more ridiculous. BUT the biggest thing is that they are playing the blame game on the court and in the media. I think they might actually start fighting or demanding for trades.

INSIDER 12-12-2012 01:13 PM

Lakers.

they've already fired their coach. that right there gives them the bump.
the expectations before the season began were so high, they were pretty much considered a dream team.
The raps on the other hand were predicted to get like 25 wins or something. we're pretty much playing to expectations if you think about it. the only people who think this team is a total mess are Toronto fans, no one else thinks this is some monumental collapse. no one thought we'd be good anyway.

20 games in and media are already asking D12 what his plan is for the offseason, he's already talking as if he wants to leave.... that whole situation is a ticking time bomb. Lakers win this poll big time, IMO.
