What options do you like best?

We've heard several names that the Raptors might be or are rumored to be interested in. Out of these names what are the two best options in your opinion, assuming we're going to make two significant additions this summer, probably 1 trade + 1 signing.

Names we've heard so far:

Tyreke Evans
Kyle Lowry
Nicolas Batum
Steve Nash
Ersan Ilyasova
Rudy Gay
Andre Iguodala
Goran Dragic
Mickael Pietrus (added him b/c of our interest in him 5 months ago)
Jeremy Lin

Eric Gordon (b/c i'm hoping he's an option BC keeps in mind ;))

Gay and Tyreke

LOG 06-11-2012 10:42 PM

realistically i expect only one out of the list and than we draft someone at 8

moremilk 06-11-2012 10:42 PM

Lowry and batum

Since we're playing the fantasy GM game:

Dwight Howard and LeBron James.

And since when is it probable we'll get 2 of the guys you listed?

0nekhmer 06-11-2012 10:45 PM

Evans is underrated but he doesn't really fit with our team, would still go after him though.

I thought the word ASSUMING was pretty clear...:face4:

I 100 percent agree with moremilk. those two guys can grow with the team. chances of getting batum is very slim though.:sigh:

Tyreke would be a dream if we could send DeMar back. He could easily be a top 5 shooting guard in this league with a little more polish.

lowry and evans though i wouldn't be so quick to say evans could be a top 5 SG, especially "easily"

if we could only get one guy ideally i'd love to see lowry in a raps jersey next year. love his game.

About as clear as most of your posts.

What's that saying about asking silly questions?

I'll take 1993 Michael Jordan and 2001 playoffs Shaq.

if the question of the post isn't clear enough for you then maybe you should step away from it. Or maybe just shut your cake hole and quit complaining.

Batum and Dragic. Both should appreciate Toronto. If we can't get a top 5 SF then we can defend the top 5 instead with Batum and JJ and get offense elsewhere. Dragic over Lowry because of smarts, attitude, cost, etc. Not sure both can be had.

We would have to overpay for Gay.

Iggy is past the best before date.

I liked aspects of Evans's game during his rookie season but...

I wouldn't necessarily say Evans is a dream, since there are a couple of major concerns with him. First, he has been injury prone during his first 3 years. Second, he could be looking for a huge payday, despite those injury problems. That's why he is available. Sac does not want to give him max or close to it, but there is a good chance that a GM will be dumb enough to give it to him when he is an RFA. So you'd be forced to match to keep him, even though it's unclear whether he can hold up for a full season. He has a shitload of talent, but when those types of players are available, there is usually some risk, as I've outlined. Evans is probably not a cap friendly player. He might be worth the risk though.

I totally agree that, if the Raps did decide to acquire Evans, it would be best if Demar was going the other way. Evans does not appear to be a PG. He is probably going to have to be a wing. He does not shoot the ball well from the outside. I don't think he is a good fit next to Demar, even if Evans has the length to guard SFs, allowing Derozan to stay at SG.

Evans is young with a lot of upside, but there are concerns. It would be really interesting to see what kind of defensive player he could be under Casey's system.

Nash and Gay for me.

I think Nash would bring excitement back to Toronto, and not really at the expense of production. He would increase revenue dramatically too, and that may help MLSE spend a little bit more after raking in a KABAJILLION dollars. That could help fund future moves and/or his eventual replacement.

Rudy Gay fits this team really well, along with some other options at SF, but his strengths really complement Bargnani and DeRozan's weaknesses really well.

A starting lineup of

Nash
DeRozan
Gay
Bargnani
Valanciunas

looks really good, and hopefully we'd hold on to some of our depth too.

halphbreedballer 06-12-2012 01:38 AM

We trade DeRozan & a 2nd for Evans
Then we trade Klieza, Amir, s&t Bayless & our 1st for Gay

Jose/ Uzoh/2nd
Evans/Forbes/anderson
Gay/JJ/FA
AB/Ed
JV/Grey/Alabi/Mags

Dream scenario of course.

I doubt they'd give up gay for DD and a second..

I think I have a relevant point. You are simply resorting to abuse because my point of view makes you insecure. (I wonder why the mods didn't catch this one?)

The point is that it's a terrible idea to mortgage the future of the franchise for players of the quality you've listed. None of the guys you listed are A list stars. They're the next tier down - the guys that kill your cap space without adding too many wins.

Frankly, I'm tired of your assumptions. You're impatient and you want change, and you don't care about the long term success of the franchise. The path you describe leads to mediocrity at best. Have patience, and build through the draft. Once the core is succeeding on their own you can attract A list talent and become contenders.
