Default What is Joey Graham's ceiling??

Is he reaching it now?? Im starting to wonder, thought id make a thread about it :P

I for one think confidence was the only thing missing and we are just beginning to see the kind of things he can do in practice, i would like to explore this further given the season is a wash. Run plays for a Roko/Joey hookup and shit, i thought JT was a man with all kindsa plays?? lol oh well, hard to find good things to talk about, so the good news is, we may let him walk before we ever find out....

I'm thinking a more athletic Mo Pete, with a better FG%, much worse leadership, and more boneheaded plays.

Too dumb to be a consistent starter. Solid guy off the bench with athletic ability, but is more of a role player. I doubt he'll be much better then he already is.

does he have more room to grow given his obv superior athletism then a normal player his age?? Is he really that dumb?? Im starting to think a ton of his problem was Sam (and i like Sam) and the way Sam goes about "encouraging" ppl. I dont think he is strong minded enough at the time to deal with it. Some guys are late bloomers and usually that doesnt mean in the athletic sense, the talent has always been there, but in the mental sense. I really hope he puts things together.

Why is the consenus he is dumb?? It's been so rare this year for him to take bad looks alot of times in a game, he is pretty much letting the game come to him and swinging the ball nicely when it isnt, and his passing seems to have improved. In fact, i would say he has been one of our smarter defenders this year too, he uses his fouls well and challenges at decent times, i think he is an overall decent defender and rebounder aswell. I know in the past he took stupid charging fouls consistently, forced up bad looks etc, but im talking about this year, what leads ppl to believe he is dumb?? Is it how he looks??

Their have been a few games, I can't remember for sure what ones, but I know their were a few, where nobody on the other team wanted to guard Joey.

I think it was back when he started. He would start off scoring a few baskets on his man, easily. The other team by the ball, completely caught by surprise with no gameplan to stop what they thought was a non-threat... but we're the new Triano' raptors, feeding the hot hand isn't something this team does.

Joey might have the most consistant move on the team. That baby hook is unstoppable when he gets in the lane. Give him pt and thats good for 4,6 points a night easy. He hits the 15 footer with regularity as well, and he's usually good for a few offensive boards with putbacks.

It blows my mind (I say that a lot this year), that Joey hasn't been getting more pt then Parker. I know Joey is a three. I don't care. He's a better two guard than Parker is, on both ends of the floor.

Their is no internal competition on this team. Their is no way Joey doesn't outplay every wing on our team scrimmaging in practice. I just can't believe that he doesn't. I wish I knew what happened in Raptor practices, maybe they don't scrimmage.

i don't think joey's dumb. i just think he came into the league boy-minded and delicate. he came in talking big words about transforming into a shutdown defender and got immediately knocked on his ass. he had zero confidence and continuously made the same mistakes over and over again.

i don't blame mitchell for a second. we had depth and we were in the playoff hunt. joey got his minutes, showed his flashes, but yet he'd always revert to making the same dumb costly mistakes.

my concern about joey is what happens when he has to look over his shoulder again? he openly admitted that he doesn't have to worry about the mistake with triano, but we're a losing team with nothing to gain. a new coach and a hopeful competitive team might knock joey back a step again.

i want him back next season. i just hope our coach recognizes how to use him.

I always thought the only thing holding Joey back was Joey.

If you think Mitchell was his problem then explain how he flourished under a tough love coach like Eddie Sutton.

lol, he is probably one of the smartest Raptors
his main problem is ball handling, which is decent for a PF, but horrible for a SF, which is why he thrives at the 4 ...

Joey plays hard every night...there is no ceiling for that.

Sometimes even talentless people do very good cuz of hard work.

Someone said something about MoPete type numbers and I agree with them. Joey's an okay player, but I don't think he averages more than 14-15 ppg and 6 rpg. If he could get to those type numbers and play solid D, I would be one very happy camper.

I agree, 15 points and 6 boards sounds reasonable. He could easily be swatting away a ball a game, but that will come with a little more time spent working on the defensive end.

Does anyone feel like he should extend his range out to the three point line?

I think he could be a solid 5th starter on a good team.

5th starter? That would mean he's a starter, right?

Joey could be a very good 6th man. Operative word here is COULD.

i'd be happy with 10 and 5, but that's because i don't really want to see him as a starter.
