If we had traded T.J for a wing player, and signed Elton Brand instead of JO (would have been 7 million less),would the American media be saying the same thing about him that they are saying about JO?Elton Brand is looked at as a god/saviour while JO is always discussed with a question mark.Would that still be the case is the players were reversed?Brand played 8 games last season, but that rarely ever comes up.

What if your sister was your brother I mean no offense but I hate things like these. There is no what if to talk about Brand signed as free agent J.o came in a trade it would not have been possible for Raps to have Brand instead of O'Neal

JO works as a center, Brand doesn't. It's also legitimate to put more expectations in Brand to deliver than JO, when players return from an achilles injury they usually don't lose anything. Knee problems, they do... JO was a shadow of his All-Star self when he was playing last year.

you can't sign brand if you don't have cap-space, so the point is moot.

When looking at contracts, length is just as important as dollars.

Elton Brand makes $16M in 2010/11, $17M in 2011/12, $18M in 2012/13. Jermaine Oneal makes: $0, $0, $0 in those years so far.

With Jermaine being 31-32 at the end of his current 2-year contract, he will not get *over* max money like Brand has. Depending on how he plays this year, he should get anywhere from $6-12 million per season.

People rightly question Jermaine's injury history - it's pretty bad. He is saying the right things, but we'll see if his injuries hold up.

However, don't discredit Elton Brand's injuries as a thing of the past. Elton has had the more recent injury, and missed more time last year. Jermaine had about 30 warm up games late last year; Elton had none.

People (including Washington's GM's) bought into the hype on Gilbert Arenas' full recovery from injury too, and look where he is now - on the injury reserve until January at the earliest.

--------

I think Jermaine is the better signing in the short term (he can play C, while Brand cannot; he is coming off a supposed conditioning program for a chronic nagging injury, not a major recent surgery) and the long term (despite being older, his contract is 3 years shorter, and his extension should he earn one will be for less money.

I don't think I'm being a homer here either. If Brand averages 20/10/4 blocks like clockwork, then I will be proven wrong, but if he takes that little step back like I predict, then I'm right.

Also, how far has Brand's best team gone in the playoffs, and how far has Jermaine's ? Something to think about...

brand played a few weeks at the end of last season too. And a big part of that Arenas contract is due to his popularity and the revenues he is bringing.
