It wasn't really mentioned before, but what if he decides to play out his contract. The difference in money in 2010-2011 would be negligible, but if the economy recovers in 2010, he could make 10-30 million more if the cap recovers as expected. Many believe that the CBA will make it even more favorable for stars, at the expense of the middle ranked players, so that could be another bonus.

Not to mention that he would be the top FA in 2011, which could guarantee a max payoff . Not a selling point, but at least insurance.

That's an interesting possibility.. I'm surprised I haven't heard about it from other sources.

Of course, the American media is suggesting Bosh wants to skip town not for financial reasons, but to increase his visibility and chance of getting a ring. If they're right, the difference in money from becoming a FA in 2010 or 2011 would be nonconsequential.

he would have less security if he doesn't opt out and get a contract in 2010, and thus making 2010 another contract year for him and risk injury again.

safe play for him is to play out this season and get extension or opt out even with the economy the way it is now.

I think the cap isn't going to grow by that much in the summer of 2011. It will be slightly better than the cap of 2010, but Bosh will still get his.

About the new CBA, though, I've been reading the exact opposite thing. NBA players look out for one another, and I doubt that the middle-tier players would take a pay cut so the stars can make more money. It's already pretty ridiculous how much more the stars make.

The lockout would happen in 2011. He needs to sign now or by next summer to beat the new CBA.

wont ever happen.
players only turn down guarenteed money when they feel they have a chance of making more the follwing year. Bosh already knows he'll get the max, so why would he ever turn that down?

I'm a big Boss fan, but he really isn't a #1 player for a contender. Hopefully, he stays and we have a good team nucleus. We do need a star ... does Derozan have it?

I don't see Derozan as a star, I see him more like another secondary option, sorta like a Caron Butler type.
