Question What Happens to Casey Now that BC is no longer GM

Well since BC has been stripped of his GM role and a new GM will be coming in and reporting directly to TL, what happens to Casey?

I'm assuming the new GM would probably want his own coach brought in.

Thoughts?

Most likely he'll get fired, and I'll be happy with that decision

GM will be told he has to keep Casey. They will hire a YES MAN. I wish I felt better about our future.

@ArashMadani
To sum up: Leiweke's in charge. Colangelo and new GM report to him. 6 on GM list. Leiweke will hire GM. Casey blows in the wind until then.
I dont see Casey keeping his job after a new GM is hired.

The big issue i have is, if they take 30 days to hire a new GM, thats a heck of alot of time to miss out on some coaches that are currently available.

That is an interesting question and it would be a lot easier if BC was actually gone. I can see DC here for next season but who knows...

I say two weeks at the most and the new GM will be announced. He said there were 6, but they've already been told a couple of them they weren't given permission to talk to them. So it looks like there are 4 candidates or so.

or so far..

I'm sure the names a good ones, but history certainly has shown how difficult it is to get a good GM here in TO - first real test or TL's connections and abilities.

Given the timing, Casey may get a year without Bryan's interference. I think this will be something of a transitional year.

I'm thinking along the same lines. Wasn't there a rumor of the board backing DC over BC on how to deal with the players?

Yeah there was a story that stated they told he directly to play who he wants in the manner he sees fit. In other words, Fuck what BC tells you. lol

I would guess the writing was on the wall for him long before the end of this season....hopefully what we saw near the end of the season with DC unencumbered by BC is a reflection of whats to come this season.

With a new GM his first trade will certainly be setting the tone for themselves - what to do with AB.

Never make the mistake of retaining the coach

Has to be done. Have to get your guy in plus the money is flowing so you can get what u want. I don't trust mlse down the road in a year the board might deny him the money where as right it would be hard to being the new guy and not Give him the budget that might be needed if the guy ends up being a name guy if the new gm wants to go that route

As TL stated in his interview ... it will be up to the new GM to determine the staff he wants ... this includes the coach.
I'm sure Casey will be assessed by the new GM, and he will need to make a decision if changing the coach now will have a more negative vs positive affect on creating a winning culture that actually includes winning.

"Winning Culture"

so does this mark the end of the expansion era?

If the new GMs goal is to gut the team and rebuild it all slowly, or tank, that would be one reason I could think for DC to stay.

would be nice to keep him on as an assistant coach, for his defensive coaching, he definitely improved our overall team defense since he came on from being a joke to probably average around the league

but head coaches don't usually drop back to being assistants unless the team was an expansion team or the new head coach is some supercoach
