What happened to buying 2nd pick?

I thought that was part of the plan?
Obviously they had the opportunity since other teams bought picks.

I thought at the very least they could have bought a pick to get Sam Young in the 2nd round.....what would it have cost them....not much i'm sure.

BC said he was searching for picks around 16-20 in the first round and had no intention of buying 2nd round pick, unfortunatly it cost 3 million to buy a pick at that moment so he said it would not be a good use of the funds.

Lakers sold their 29th pick for $3mill. Do you honestly want to spend that much on a second rounder in a crappy draft?

Actually it was 3Mil + future 2nd round pick. Which is insane.

I think the fact that he'd have to give 3Mil and then spend more money on a contract (which he brought up) made no sense for a late 1st round pick in a shitty draft.

no need to spend that much for a 10th man

In a nut shell:

From what I can gather the Raptors were working hard to try and make a deal lower in the draft when they saw that both Johnson (16th to the Bulls) and Jrue Holiday (17th Philadelphia) were sliding somewhat, but the cost was too steep. There was also an effort to get into the second round to pick up Derrick Brown (40th, Charlotte), with the asking price in the millions. Better to keep that powder dry for free agency was the thinking in the end.

save it for free agency???
