Raptors What to do with Peja Stojakovic? Who would want him?

First of all, any word on when he's gonna play again?

OK, we have Peja Stojakovic and his 15Mil expiring contract and the rumour is that BC will try and deal him by the deadline. Do you think this will happen? And if so, which teams would be interested in his services for the stretch run and perhaps into the playoffs? Will the options be limited? Would we get much in return?

I think he'll be bought out.

If he takes the buyout for less, that is what will happen first.

Haven't followed the cap this year, are we well above the cap + current salary player increases, that it won't matter if his salary just expires?

Its unfortunate for his injury because in the limited time he played with the raps i feel he is still an elite player in this league. If teams trade for him it will be for his contract but we would not get much in return... If he did not go down with that injury he could be racking up good numbers right know and his trade value would be high maybe a contender will want him if he plays well after his injury...

He'll get traded to a team that needs a quality shooter.

Igoudola

this team needs another reliable scorer besides Bargnani, especially those nights when Bargs is having a bad night there is no one to pick him up l

another guy is Mayo but I'm not sure what Memphis would wnat for him, I think he is the best scorer on memphis, its just the salary structure has Rudy Gay being hte main guy on the perimeter

I don't know if Colangelo likes him enough to take on that contract. I think Philadelphia would do a deal, but I think BC would want another player thrown in? Maybe someone like young.

Alot of teams willing to dump a bad contract for an a expring contract. Maybe a chance for the Raptors to get a high draft pick or a young prospect to accept a bad contract.

Mayo would be a nice edition.

He's a restricted free agent next summer, and Memphis won't have the money to keep him in town. Especially if they throw big money at Gasol. It will probably take a combination of players and/or picks to get him.

I'm pretty sure they are benching Mayo because they don't want to pay him the money he deserves when his contract is up. They got one of the cheapest owners in Memphis. It's too bad because if they spent money to keep the players they have, the Grizzlies would be a serious threat in the future.

Do you even read the articles you post?

Yet if no follow-up swap materializes before Feb. 24 involving Stojakovic's $15 million expiring contract, he's a virtual lock to be bought out by the Raps before March 1, which would enable Peja to take his forever-dangerous J -- Dallas watched him ring up a quick 17 points in just 19 minutes this month -- to the contender of his choosing for the stretch run.

Raptors president Bryan Colangelo has already publicly acknowledged the buyout scenario and left the clear impression that he'll work with Stojakovic on a mutually beneficial parting when the time comes. One of the likely reasons: Without Stojakovic's cooperation in waiving $437,470 of a $1,215,953 trade kicker to make the salary-cap math work in the deal with New Orleans co-headlined by Jarrett Jack, Toronto couldn't have completed a trade that brought young Jerryd Bayless to Canada ... and finally rid the Raptors of Marcus Banks.

I think a lot of us are over-rating Peja's expiring contract. If he could be traded for a star player, we do you think NO traded him here for Jack and some spare parts?

Yeah i read it. When a journalist says it's a "virtual lock" it often doesn't happen. I don't believe they'll buy him out, they'll trade him or let his contract run out. JMHO

Peja+Kleiza for Iggy+Evans or 1st round pick. Knowing that Raptor is either 7th-9th by years end we still get a shot at picking up 1-3 first round pick would be awesome; hopefully Philly keep doing shit.

Exactly.....but remember you are talking to some people who before the NO trade thought that Marcus Banks and Reggie Evans' expiring contracts would net us Montana Ellis and other star player

Why would we buy him out? We already have a 12 million TPE to use, so we don't need short-term cap relief. Peja will ask nothing less than what he is earning right now, since he probably won't make big money in his career again (he's 33). If we buy him out, it's like flushing money out of the toilet.

That's not happening with Turner. Also there are other teams looking at him.

I could see Igoudala for Peja, but if you include Kleiza then the only real match (salary wise) would be to package Louis Williams as well. Raptors don't need him. Other guys mention Thaddeus Young but Philly won't trade him and his small expiring salary. Philly wants some cap relief.

Personally I think it's bad for the Raptors to take on Igoudala and his salary but Kleiza can use a new change in scenery in a great city like Philly. Probably not the ideal system but better than Toronto nevertheless.
