I dont think he can. If you look at the teams who need starting PGs who either don't have a PG being groomed to be the teams long term PG, or have a legit starting PG already, it isn't a long list, and that list of teams who doesn't have a good starting PG doesn't have cap room to sign Lowry anyway.

I think Masai may be able to re-sign Lowry for cheap if the market isn't there for him, a Felton like 2 year deal at 14 million, which would be great.

But if Lowry wants 4 years at 8 million+, he'll end up waiting the entire off season like Jennings, except he may not even get close to the 8 million or length of years because he isn't as young as Jennings.

I'd still trade him by the deadline though, if the value is good.

I hope this trade happens:

NBA Trade Machine - ESPN

& we could get one of there first round picks for taking on Perkins salary for another year

They have a Dallas pick currently at #22 (top 20 protected)
& they have there own pick currently 28th

Putting us in better position to trade up in the draft.

I think our 1st round pick currently 16th & a 20 something pick along with DeRozan could net us a top 5 pick IMO

I don't think that anyone's trading away a top 5 pick in this draft.... not with the way it's being hyped.

The Raptors would have to give up picks in that one, I think. Jackson is a better asset than Lowry since he's young, good, cheap and not a rental. And this gives them Fields bad contract for Perkins bad contract, so overall it doesn't change much.

As for top 5 pick, yep, very unlikely to be available. A year ago (Anthony Davis / Drummond draft) the Rockets were shopping 3 mid round picks and Lowry and were trying to move into top 5. On paper, that's a lot of solid assets. But teams rarely trade top 5 picks for a bunch of "solid assets". They don't want to miss on a star. In general, in the NBA teams rarely trade a dollar for a bunch of dimes unless they have to. You need that dollar, that foundational type player, if you want to truly compete in the NBA. Top 5 pick is a great chance to get that foundational player, especially in a draft like this. Several mid/late round picks and DeRozan, that's a bunch of very nice dimes that would help a team but none of them is likely to be a true franchise player.

Basically only Lakers, Utah and Boston (after dealing Rondo) both need a starting PG and have the capspace next year to sign one.
Others need creative financing and/or getting rid of current PG

I trust Masai with keeping Lowry or getting max value for him.
Still rather keep him, perfect fit for our team.

Utah has Burke. Lakers, Raptors, maybe Magic.

Extend is not possible. Trade seems unlikely. Let him play it out is the one.

I would have taken the knicks deal (THJ plus the pick) and I think MU would have too. Since then nobody has stepped up with anything even close, or Lowry would not be here. So since there is no decent offer for him netting picks/youg players. Just let him play it out and he either walks, we S+T him or sign him depending on his demands. Even if we slightly overpay Lowry at $11-12, you could still get good value trading him later if required to a tax team (Hi Knicks).

Besides... assuming at the deadline we are over .500... how does it look to players here or UFAs etc if you ditch him for next to nothing just to get something, instead of making whatever run you can make?

I just don't think there's much of an offer out there. All contenders have PGs except maybe Indy and even then I don't think they upset the balance and risk a trade. The rest of teams basically tank anyway so they don't need him. Leaves still only the NYK and Nets and the Rondo card still has to be played.

I think we could get that Philly pick from Miami in exchange for Lowry.

Raptors get: Joel Anthony, Norris Cole, Philly 1st round
Heat get: Kyle Lowry

How long is it protected and how much? I'm not 100% sure on those details but didn't think it was that much.

If the 76ers don't make the playoffs this year or next year, the pick is gone and replaced by second rounders.

Ah nevermind that would be a talent dump then and we all know Masai won't do that.
