Default What did you play?

I posted in the Raptor area so people would see it.

I have some questions regarding what types of perspectives you might be bringing to the table when posting about the Raptors and the NBA. This is a sports related forum, so I'm curious who played/plays organized sports. To be clear, I'm not asking because I think having played a particular sport at a certain level, or even at all, makes a particular opinion automatically better than another. It might be relevant in some cases, but not automatically, and not always. So I have no intention of making it an issue for that purpose. When I was in grade school, one of the most succesful local high school basketball coaches (by a considerable margin) was a man who never played. But I do think experiences playing might dictate some of our perspectives, so I'm curious about what types of experiences our forum members have with organized sports, if any. I've wondered in the past, but have become much more curious recently.

When I say organized sports, I mean a team with a coach and some level of competitiveness, like a school team or a community club or regional team that holds tryouts.

1 - did you play any sports? If so, which ones?

2- How old were you/how many years did you play?

3 - add any additional info if you like. For example, maybe you've also reffed or coached? That might be intersesting to know, as well.

And....go

Yeah, man. lol

I played hockey, soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, volleyball all at various levels. School teams, house league, travelling teams from an early age right up until sometime in high school

Then I discovered playing music and competitive sports went out the window.

Have only ever played basketball casually - no organized teams. Was never good enough to make the school teams.

Have played hockey since I was 5 or so, house league mostly, though I dabbled in travel for a few years. Still play pickup once a week. Protector of the piped pavilions, as Joe Bowen might say.

Otherwise, I've casually played tennis, soccer (organized when I was young), baseball (again, organized when I was young), badminton, still play squash on occasion.

Also play music, Acie. Piano and Sax.

Basketball(PG from age 7-15) and baseball(OF from age 5-12) when I was younger.

Really wish I played football but I always chicken out. Really wish I stuck with basketball & baseball but quit at a young age. Now I play basketball for fun again(21 years old).

some decent high school football programs in Ohio. In Texas we had to be on the field by 6:30 am because it would be 80-90 degrees by 11 am and we couldn't practise in heat.
the pain of waking up early was greater than the pain you receive on the field

Basketball: Playing for 5 years now, was scouted by a local college. I play all 5 positions, but I like to play down low or high post. I'm pretty good compared to the YMCA guys. Had confidence issues early in high school and was basically just a shot blocker but now I can do everything pretty well. Except defence, the fast guys kill me.

Track and Field: Been highjumping since grade 5 or something. 2x OFSAA, various medals from meets. Last year I didn't lose a meet until OFSAA, where I was seeded 3rd in Ontario. Waiting for the season to start up now. Also going over the border on a track scholarship to the states after this school year.

My passion is basketball but my love is highjump I suppose!

I played tennis competitively until I was 17 and stopped. Started at the age of 11, competed at diff clubs across the GTA, was on my junior high and high school teams and my University team for the first year but quit to focus more on my grades which really stunk in first year.

I played on my high school basketball team in gr 11 and 12 though I didn't get much playing time.

Still play both sports regularly. Moving to Texas in late July for my masters so will be playing tennis all year round which is a luxury I haven't had!

Soccer and Basketball.

Played soccer - house league from the age of 7 - 15. Made the soccer team for elementary school in grade 8 but didn't play much. Tried out for a rep team at one point just for fun. I was asked to train with the rep team but I couldn't cuz I had other committments. I now play randomly in a league with my brother and some ppl he and I both know. I also play randomly with friends in the summer. Position - D - mainly. CB although I wouldn't mind LB or RB. I've played CDM which is alright. I've even played as a target man for a tiny bit which is alright as well. I'm not a winger.

Basketball - first played basketball, like at all - in grade 7 and 8. Made the grade 8 team, got minutes here and there. I played a lot casually with friends in high school. Tried out for the team in grade 11 I believe but didn't make it although I did impress in the last day of tryouts in a game that was played. Grade 12 - didn't try out, no time and they continued to have tryouts really early. They also played a lot of favouritism and didn't advertise the tryouts, there was this one guy who made the team - damn, was he ever bad, in grade 11 tryouts he had an open basket for the longest time and could've layed it in as he had all the time in the world but the guy is really slow, I run back and Ibaka him. At my school I was considered tall (6 foot 1) so most of the time I played C or PF but at times I played SF.

Played very little Baseball, Softball and Beach Volleyball very randomly and casually.
