Wow.... over the last 17 games we're SECOND in the league when it comes to defending the 3!

Would you EVER have thought that was possible for this team??

The improvement also happens to closely coincide with Jose Calderon's 12-game absence for a hip flexor injury. Calderon is a notoriously bad defender, and in the two games since he's returned, the Raptors' defense has taken a small step backward.

shocking... really....

we played the Magic (who are a very good offensive team) and a really bad first quarter against the 76ers (in which Jose didn't see much court time).

Its no coincidence that in that time, Bargnani hasnt looked completely lost on defence most of the time, and Bosh hasnt looked soft in rotating out as well. When the bigs effectively shut down the lane and use their length and quickness to affect shots and know where to rotate, our defence becomes that much better.

There isnt as much 'floating' going on either where the perimeter player is in no mans land trying to stop the drive and giving up corner 3s anymore because the trust factor has built to a very comfortable level between the perimeter guys and the B's. Its been nice to see.

sure, but wins get recognition. It's hard to get recognized when you suck for a season and a half.

i don't hate Caldy... the problem with him is his bad defence and handling the ball for 15 secs and then looking to create for only Bargs or Bosh...

Thing that i like about our defence now, is how much more agressive we are pressuring the strong side. We were sitting too far back in the key before, giving the opposition all kinds of time and space on the perimeter. It was way to easy for them to pick us apart. By increasing the pressure we are now causing teams to make many more turnovers as they are forced to react so much quicker and now we are filling the lanes and getting off our fast break as well. Turk's play last night was a classic example, he moved out of what they call the house and pressured near the top of the circle and was able to pick off a pass to his man and go in for an easy bucket the other way. Weems and Derozan and Jack have also been doing alot of that lately.

His defence isn't that bad guys. Jack is just as shit. How many times do I have to repeat that. Jack constatnly gets burned on D but no one ever talks about that. They only see Jose getting beat

OMG, and there I was thinking he was actually a smart man.

Why does it take 20 games to figure out that one has to coach to the personnel's strengths?!

Calderon was amazing last night. I kept saying this before but his spot is on the second unit. Not because Jack is better, but because Jose can destroy second rate PGs because he's an offensive beast. Plus he won't have to worry about guarding the likes of Chris Paul and Jason Kidd.

Because Triano came into the season talking about defensive field goal % and how to be a top 10 team. He wanted us to compete for a championship. I guess he realized that with this unit, it's not possible. Not yet, at least.

With that said, it's not just Jay's fault. Bosh and especially Bargnani look much better on D than earlier in the year, and we're getting torched less at the guard positions. Hedo also looks healthy for the first time this season.
