Dont' forget our taxes here. He has to pay the HST so really he's only making about 63K a year when you break it down.

Uh oh! Someone is getting too big for his britches!

The funny thing is, I've seen this scenario play out a lot of times, and he'll either sign with a really bad team for a bit more money (like New jersey for $2-3M per year), or he'll end up on a good team making shit money (minimum to ~$1.5 M) playing even fewer minutes than he is now.

Sonny just isn't as good as he thinks he is. The problem is, earlier in the year he said that he feels he's the best shooting guard on the team and tries to play like it every night. It was probably true at the time, but it sure isn't now. DeRozan is already a much more complete player, and he's still growing. Sonny is a chucker for sure.

James Johnson, even despite his shooting woes brings more to the table with his size and defense.

If the CBA provides any type of salary restriction or cutback from the current rules, Sunny could find himself waiting for a non-guaranteed min contract offer.

what a joke. I can remember early on i was semi concerned with how any unrest involving either Weems, Derozan or Johnson would affect the whole young gunz dynamic as a whole. Well who even fucking cares. As soon as anyone takes a me-first approach, the writing should be on the wall.

I walk past the ACC a lot and i still have a laugh every time i pass by a sonny weems advertising mural. Sonny freaking weems. Guy went from D league to being on billboards and murals outside of the arena. dude pretty much sucks. I hope he isn't back next year.

You know who he reminds me of? Joey Graham. They don't have the same deficiencies, but the way we all talk about Sonny is the exact way we used to talk about Joey. and guess what: He was total SHIT.

on the flipside, a guy like weems has a job for 10 years at most and usually NBA players have little skills other than basketball, so it's fairly hard for them to make a living after they hang the boots. Even when you get paid 750k a year (of which you probably see about half), you're not going to get terribly rich. Not to mention the horde of "friends" and "relatives" that try to milk these players once they start making some nice cash ...

ďIt is my contract year, and I want to feed my family,Ē Weems said. ďIím disappointed every day. Itís not pleasing at all, and it doesnít make me happy. But itís something I have to deal with. Thatís the way the cards were dealt.Ē
I can't believe he pulled the Latrell Spreewell. One of the most hilarious/pathetic lines in sports history.

That's brutal. I actually like Weems, and in the right role (backup SG - after we could potentially trade Barbosa) but when he pulls out the "feed my family" line, I just lost almost all of the respect I had for him.

I like Weems, he would be good backing up DD off the bench or even moving DD to SF and Weems to SG sometimes. i don't get how he can't feed his family when has more money than all of us here :S Unless he has to be like 250 credit card bills

For the record, at the end of this season, Sonny Weems will have made over 2 million dollars in the last three years.

If he was on any other team he wouldn't even be in the rotation. He should be grateful he even gets to step on the floor... if he can convert back to the old Weems then he'll get a guaranteed extension, but he just fell off the maps lately.

Oh Sonny.... If only he continued to focus on playing D the way that did last season.

The annoying thing is that a team like the Spurs will probably sign him on the cheap next season and he'll become Bruce Bowen for them lol. I can just see it now.

Pleasantly surprised by James Johnson... like his size and his tenacity.

Sonny should be thankful for this organization, not bashing it. He would have been a nobody playing in Europe.

Give him an inch, he takes a mile...

+1

No other team in the NBA would he have had the attention he had here let alone the minutes. Then again it speaks to the overall talent.

well the reason why we traded for James Johnson is because Sonny isn't the same player he was last year, especially his defence, and geting his points off the offence instead of what he does now which is create for himself
