Default WE NEEDS MIKE D'ATONIE

He's the only coach in history who really has a influence on a team. Look at the Knicks compare to last season. The Run N Run is what we need and have the right players to run that.

LOL - run and run, no shots and no defense either

I like what Dan Tony's been doing in NY, but no chance we get him, might as well be asking for Kobe and Lebron to join our team

The true genius is that BC didnt go try n get him, even tho he obviously had alot of doubts about Smitch coming into the year, the true genius was getting the real best Italian coach out there, Gay Piano.

Sorry, can somebody remind me again what exactly D'Antoni has won with a better lineup than what the Raptors have right now?

hes likely to win coach of the year if the Knicks get into the playoffs.
and besides, Knicks signed him to a pretty big contract, i don't think he'll come here anytime soon if he doesn't get fired.

Knicks are doing better than us with a lineup with no real 1st option just a bunch of C-list players.

I meant what did he accomplish with the Suns in the past? Sure, lots of wins, but nothing to show for it.

So I take it you are the kind of fan that considers a season a crappy one unless a championship is won (meaning you have never thought that the Raptors ever had a good season)?

I disagree with the notion that a winning season is nothing without winning it all. Saying that D'Antoni accomplished nothing with the Suns is an asinine statement. From the 04-05 (Nash's arrival and D'Antoni's first full season) to 07-08 (firing), D'Antoni had the Suns at 232 wins and 96 losses (percentage of 0.707). His run-and-gun system is undeniably the reason why Nash won the two MVPs that he did (even Nash thanks D'Antoni for it). They have won the division 3 times and the conference once in the four full seasons that D'Antoni was the head coach of the Suns. Rightfully, D'Antoni won coach of the year in his first full season as head coach.

Oh, and its not coincidence that there were no Suns in the All-Star game the year before D'Antoni began his first season as head coach but the seasons that followed, at least 2 Suns made All-Star honors (3 in 2005, 2 in 2006, 3 in 2007, 2 in 2008).

That is what D'Antoni accomplished with the Suns in the past. Anyway, I think the point that OP is trying to make is that D'Antoni would surely cause a change for the better if he were the coach of the Raptors (alas such is not possible). Your(Jay) point is that if he can't win the championship with a better team (Suns), how can he win with the Raptors. I agree with both BUT, I will continually argue against anyone who thinks D'Antoni's efforts with the Suns were simply "wins with nothing to show for it".

The Raptors don't need D'Antoni to be a good team. The Raptors just need a good coach to be a good team. Put in a couple better players and we would be a great team.

Nash was as big a reason for Phoenix's success, D'Antoni was along for the ride. The guy was a terrible coach and in the playoffs, there were times when I'd be wondering what he actually was trying to do. I'll argue that he was one of the more overrated coaches in the past 5 years, up there with Avery Johnson.

overrated ? he's the only coach with a real system. You see the diffenrece between the Knicks this season and last season. One of the highest scoring team in the league. When Avery was fired did u see any changes in Dallas ? NO. Because COACHS ARE OVERRATED. Except for one. Mike D'Atonie. Run N Gun. Raptors got the right players to run that. If Mike was here we would be top 3 in the East right now. Jay & Sam ? Whats the difference ? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Jerry Sloan has won nothing also but he' still a great coach.

the Raptors dont play any defence anyway... we might aswell have Don Nelson here.

He'd love this team.

I'm going to be blunt right now, but I question your overall basketball knowledge. Sorry, I'm not trying to be an ass but really.

First you say all coaches are overrated SAVE for D'antoni (spell it right). What would it matter if we were one of the highest scoring teams? What would that exactly solve. The problem with D'Antoni is that he had a championship calibre squad and didn't win anything. Sloan has been to the dance and pushed one of the greatest teams ever to the brink. Had it not been for an obvious push it could've easily gone seven, but that's in the past.

And the Raptors DON'T have the right players to run n' gun. J.O. would be huffin', Jose is a half court set PG and even Bosh doesn't operate the same way, say Amare does.

But hey, whatever's entertaining right?

When a bad GM picks your coach, you get a bad coach, what do Mikey D, Sam and JT all have in common?
