Did you guys hear BC taking about packaging pick for a ''right'' player if available on TSN?

I think MKG could drop.

He's got great intangibles, but he's really not the kind of high upside prospect that traditionally gets picked top 5.

Davis, Robinson, Drummond, Beal, Sullinger, PJ3, Barnes and maybe even Lamb could all go higher than MKG, so it might seem like a long shot, but he could be there for the Raptors at #8.

I think that it's unlikely a trade is made before BC is on the clock on draft night and knows exactly who he's passing up.

You can't just sit in the draft room with a list full of offers and wait to see who gets taken. Deals require negotiating, not just spur of the moment click on accept and the deal is done. We have the flexibility until the draft to swing a trade. It wouldn't shock me at all to see him make a move before then.

If he is really trying to get Lowry he might do it before (especially if he is getting Houston's pick back) Because i think it would be much harder to get him later, when teams like Lakers go after him

Yeah, you negotiate ahead of time.

GM: If player X is available when you're picking we'll give you assets A, B and C for him.

BC: If player Y is available when I'm picking I'm going to take him, but if not the trade is on.

GM: Deal!

BC: Ok, now we wait and see what happens.

That's how it works.

It's the reason why so many trades get announced on draft night - because neither party knows that the trade is really going down until they're on the clock and the player is still available, and because they've arranged the trade ahead of time.

Longshot is an understatement. While i can see Charlotte fucking up and taking Drummond instead, but he'll never drop to us. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

OK, how about the Carter, Jamison trade?

Do you suppose that was spontaneous, or negotiated ahead of time?

Fixed.

I doubt that Houston trades Lowry before the draft, let alone July 1st, with Dragic being an unrestricted free agent. If they did that they could potentially go from 2 really good PGs to none, or leave themselves in a position to grossly overbid for Dragic. I don't think this happens.

trade the pick, enough of this drafting and hoping the player turns out, lets trade for a guy who can play and let other teams deal with this mine field that is the 2012 draft

Re: the exchange between Grizz and Eggs above

I think a good example would be the Spurs last year, when they eventually trade Hill for the Pacers pick. The Spurs were really interested in Leonard and talked to a number of teams about moving up, since Leonard was projected to go anywhere between 5 and mid 1st round. That's probably part of the reason why there were rumours about the Spurs maybe trading Parker to teams like Toronto, or it could have been teams were asking for him in exchange for the pick plus filler.

The point is, the Spurs were negotiating different scenarios with several teams before the draft. There is no way in hell the Spurs were going to give Indiana George Hill just for their pick. That deal was contigent on Leonard being available. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if San Antonio had pretty extensive negotiations with a couple of other teams with higher picks that were in position to land Leonard. The Pacers deal just ended up being the right price. But if Leonard was not available, does anyone think that deal goes through? No.

BC could engage in similar negotiations, and decide later whether the price is right.

he writes and article about waiters and now he won't shut up about him. ford is horrible for falling in love. the worse thing is, he's usually terribly wrong about the players he really hypes up.

I'm for the idea of trading down (for 12-15) and a rotation player...if Toronto is targeting a PG,they could get possibly Marshall,Teague,Lillard or Rivers (Yes Austin can play the Point, similar to Curry does for GS) there. Whoever they take could be groomed for one season behind Jose as his contracts expires or even take over as soon as the trade deadline if the Raptors were to move Calderon.

If not,I say keep and select at 8th and take the best player available if Barnes,Kidd-Gilchrist,Beal are already drafted.
