Chad Ford.....

NBA -- Mock Draft, Version 5.0 - ESPN

Quote:
The Raptors are filled with a roster of mostly soft jump shooters. What they really need is a tough player who can get to the basket and get his own shot at the end of games. They need a true scorer. DeMar DeRozan might get there someday, but Waiters is there right now. The fact that Waiters can also play some point guard is a bonus. He could go anywhere from No. 6 to No. 15 on draft night.
1. Davis, NO
2. MKG, Charlotte
3. Beal, Washington
4. Barnes, Cleveland
5. Robinson, Sacramento
6. Drummond, Portland
7. Sullinger, Warriors
8. Waiters, Raptors
9. Henson, Pistons
10. Lillard, NO
11. Lamb, Portland
12. PJ3, Milwaukee
13. Ross, Phoenix
14. Zeller, Houston
15. Moultrie, Philly
16. Terrence Jones, Houston

The fact that Dion didn't even start of Syracuse kind of concerns me, but if he ends up as another Tyreke Evans, I wouldn't be disappointed at all.

It seems to me that DeRozan leaving Toronto is starting to become more and more inevitable. There are just so many shooting guards who could challenge DeMar for that starting spot.

Outside top 10? Wow, that's a lot of variability. Things will become clearer soon, now that the order is established and the workouts are going.

Chad Ford seems to be thinking of the 2009-2010 Raptors.

Right now the only decent shooters from 3 are Bargs, JC, JB, and LK, and how many of those guys are in the Raptors' long term plans?

A 2/3 with a good shot from 3 would be the most significant upgrade to the roster, in my opinion, and I don't see that in this year's draft class.

There's too many big SFs in the NBA for a guy like Lamb to be consistently successful at that position.

He'll make a much better SG.

Exactly, replacing DD. Why does everyone want to pair the two?

I have no idea.

Playing DD at SF is just as bad as playing Lamb at SF - he'll get killed by the Durants, Melos and LeBrons.

I'd rather go with a guy like Terrence Jones at SF, because he can at least defend at that position.

I wouldn't put Bargs and shooter in the same sentence, he can knock down a mid range shot when he is wide open but that's about it. The fact that he is chucking way more 3's than he should does not make him a shooter..

He averages 3.5 shots from beyond the arc out of his nearly 16 shots per and shoots 36 3pt% for his career. He had an off season this past year from deep but a lot of that had to with missing so much time, and a calf injury will effect your shot especially from 3. I'm not a huge Bargnani fan, but the guy can shoot.

at #8 will be able to get pj3, marshall, rivers...lamb or barnes might still be available...

i would rank them as follows
barnes
lamb
pj3
rivers
marshall
in that order...but rivers is the most intriguing and has a potential to surprise everyone ...imo

Are we talking about the same Andrea Bargnani?

Bargs is a gifted shooter with a high, smooth and quick release, he's the 7 foot Dell Curry.

He's 37% from 3 for his career, but he definitely had an off year.

He is pretty average shooter for a PF (im guessing it's not based on the stats) And i don't know about you, but i don't call power forwards shooters. Ilgauskas was able to knock down shots on a fairly good % would you call him a shooter?

Exactly, Bargs is a PF there are some that can knock it down but in my books most of the PF's are not shooters. Bargs is not bad for big man but he is not someone i would want to take last shot from 3 with team being down. He is definitely not natural shooter like LK Barbosa or Jose.
