Raptors Are we at the bottom yet?

I'll say this, Raptors fans are survivors and have done well supporting the team through the worst. We should be proud of that. No way to look but up now over the next 2 or 3 years.

When the franchise climbs back up from laughingstock to contender for a few years, we can expect a lot of fan support.

Don't forget that the Toronto Blue Jays had 50,000 fans every single game for 81 games a year. For baseball.

But....are we at the bottom yet, or does it stay just as bad or get worse for this year first?

Whenever next season comes we'll be a better team imo. Colangelo won't do nothing with our capspace (CBA?) and a short contract. Not saying we'll be a playoff team just yet but we'll be better.

I'm more concerned about the other teams. Good teams have not gotten bad and some bad teams have stocked the cupboard.

We can only worry about us getting better. And if we can somehow get one of the top Centers in FA and get a good SF through trade or signing we could be an improved team for sure, then you get Jonas and another pick next summer + more capspace perhaps and we start to make the next step. Colangelo's final guaranteed year under contract (12-13) will be when we're a playoff team again imo.

I think it will come down to whether this team can defend or there is some mental block.

I think we'll have 3 or so new players and that depends on who those players are? I would love to see a player such as Tayshaun Prince or Shane Battier be signed along with one of the Centers. Time will tell.

It would be nice to just be really good for the first time, instead of being one of the very few teams that never seems to get very good. It feels like 16 years of bottom. Over the last 16 years there have not been many teams with less success. Aside from the Raptors, only the Warriors, the Clippers, the Wizards and the Bobcats have failed to have a 50 win season over that period, let alone multiple 50-win seasons like the majority of teams. The Clippers look pretty good at the moment and the Wizards, Warriors and Bobcats haven't really been worse than the Raptors. We are the bottom, sadly.

But in those 16yrs we've made the playoffs 6 times and won a division (no matter the reasons), what have the Clippers, Warriors done in the last 16yrs? How many times have they made the playoffs. It's not much but you take what you can get. lol

Just making the playoffs really isn't much of a yardstick. It is one of the reasons we get stuck at the bottom. It takes us out of the lottery and puts us on a treadmill. 50 wins means that there is a real chance for sustained success just from continuing to improve from within and making smart moves. It also means that the franchise has some clue as to finding the means of attaining that success. It's really just pathetic that we've never reached that level at all, even if you want to make the point that the Clippers and Warriors were worse. I don't even want to be in the neighborhood of a team that has been as poorly run as those. But there we are. Let's hope that ends soon enough.

We've lost because mid and low level players want to stay and "spend the rest of their careers here", but stars think they are too good and are being cheated staying in the 4th largest market in North America.

We've lost because we've kept putting a band-aid on the team to give the impression that the team has hope of contending....to sell tickets and make profit.

Most of all, we've lost because our ownership has refused to spend. And before someone says the Knicks spent and got nowhere, they were a joke and the exception. If they had thrown 20 mil at it once in a while (which they have had and still could have made a profit) they could have contended. Some respect for the organization would have fed off itself.

Yep. I'd just love to see new ownership at this point.

I dunno about anyone else but last season was a definite low-point for me. First time probably EVER that I willingly missed 3 or 4 Raps games in a row and didn't really care.

If it wasn't for Reggie I think I would've offed myself on my couch 10 games into the season.

Here's a list of 60 Candian billionaires, obviously most are in Ontario. But as I've mentioned before the odds are better in finding a buyer if he is short, has a small penis and a big ego. Pester them as you will.......

I don't think we have much chance with anyone on that list. Only chance is for someone on this forum to win Lottomax and then buy controlling shares, so I'm working on that

Winnig Lottomax might get you a sniff of Demar's sneaker and a bite of Andrea's pasta fagioli, but this is a big boy league purchased with big boy money.

Mmmmm!

I had access to Ken Thompson. Not so much since he died.

agreed Jeff. We should only expect a small improvement in wins because as someone else said a few weak teams are improving. But i think what we will see is just a better team who knows what it's doing better as well. We will compete in a lot more games, maybe a few more wins against good teams as well?

then season after next (i'm still talking as if there will definitely be some kind of season next season,) we will be a good team, hopefully challenging around 6th/7th/8th in the east.
