no, why not? if we want to win, this needs to be completed asap before another team catches on and uses our game plan. whatever you do, don't let anyone know about it. i'm calling BC on the red-line to run it past him.

No way we're getting Emeka, Deng, Iggy, Smith and Nash in 2 months.

I'd love it....but it won't happen.

just got off the horn. submitting offers to players from the free agent camp instead, but he was told that their better than those guys anyways. look for bosh, o'neal, and Calderon to lose their starting position this season!

I hope it's clear now...
Big fucking whoop.

A technicaliity.

Had I been the GM, i'd have signed him first. Then traded for ON'eal.

Ever think of that smarty pants.

Signed him with what?

Only way we could have got Iggy was in a sign and trade and it would have cost Bosh.

ummm... uhhh.... we couldn't have made the move before the JO trade b/c we still had TJ ($8 mil) and Rasho ($8-ish mil) on the books, puching us very close, if not over, the cap. The trade didn't take up significantly more cap space, although it did push us slightly closer to the luxury threshold.

We can sign the shit out of whoever we want when JO's $20 mil comes off the books, though...

ever think of that superdouche??

SJ, when you are ready to admit you are dreaming - come out of the "stupid" closet you've suddenly decided to occupy.

Honestly, guys, are you all just playing dumb or are you just plain dumb?

Boston first traded for Ray Allen by giving the Sonics West and Wally in addition to that #5 pick - thus satisfying the rules of the CBA: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2...ory?id=2920183

They then traded 6 players, including Ratliffs' huge contract, to the Wolves to get Garnett: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/basketball/...n-garnett.html

Both deals were done in accordance with CBA and both presented the other teams with assets they were interested in, such as draft picks, expiring contracts or young players like Al Jefferson.

Educate yourselves, please!

*Important for people who don't know the collective bargaining agreement *

You can't spend what you want. The salary cap and the luxury tax threshold are very different.

If you're over the salary cap then you are only permitted to use the MLE (Mid Level Exception) once, which is $6M/yr for as long as five years. Outside of that option all thats left is the bi-annual exception, which is worth $2M/yr. After that you're looking at minimum signings which are worth around $1M/yr or less.

Let me repeat this guys, you CANNOT spend what you like.

Now then, the luxury tax simply is a figure higher than the salary cap which places a tax on teams who cross its threshold. As I said earlier, this isn't baseball, the cap prevents you from making big signings not by discouraging but by absolutely STOPPING you from doing so.

Teams like the Knicks got so deeply in the hole because of escalating contracts (contracts which sharply increase in value over time) and then on top of that dealing contracts close to expiring for even more escalating contracts.

So the conclude, even if Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment had $1 billion budget for the Raptors they still wouldn't be able to spend over the cap as they see fit because the league prevents them from doing so.

Only if we offer at least 15 million per season

I know they were from trades but their salary is way too much above the cap. Which is really g**.
But then to offer all these perennial starters peanuts is even more g** because they accepted it. Which is just rigged in my opinion the Celtics can go fricken die!:aargh:

Thanks so much for that.

Clearly, going above the salary cap (like plenty of teams are, by the way) is an indicator of unbridled man love.

John Amaechi LOVES teams that are way over the cap

And you think signing "perennial starters" Eddie House, James Posey and Sam Cassell to back up sized contracts indicates a rigging? Really?
